What is the factory sight placement?

Is the factory sight placement POA (point of aim) e.g. line up the dots put front sight where you want the bullet to hit or is it lollipop (aka 6:00) e.g. you line up the dots and place your target circle above the front sight so the bullet will hit the circle?

Then what is the sight picture of the adjustable sights and TFO's?

I was reading through my manual the other day, and it says that the XD has a 6 o'clock sight picture at 25 yards. But each person is different. I am more accurate using POA. But of course most of my practice is at 10-20 yards. I just see no reason to shooting a pistol out to 75 feet regularly. But I have noticed when I do that the shots only open up about 2-3 inches over the 15 yard shots.

My manual says both...POA at 25 yards, but it also says that it's designed for 6 o'clock.

+1

Of course, I just tried out both ways and found mine are POA.

It is not a combat site (where the top of post is where the bullet hits). It is defiantly the 6 o'clock site picture. You will have to raise its nose up. At a far distance it probably does change to a combat-top of post-site picture. Typically handguns are close and you will use the 6 o'clock position site picture.

My manual like everyone elses says 6:00 but It sure doesn't hit there. I've got to put my front dot right on the bullseye to hit it.

My HS2K shoots POA at 15 yards with 124gr. loads, and slightly low with 115gr. fodder.

While I cannot speak for TFO's, I have the adjustable sights that I had installed on two of my XD's set so POA=POI at 15 yards with my match loads. With adjustable sights, it becomes a matter of personal preference and what type of targets are being used. For bullseye, I would go with 6 o'clock. For IPSC/IDPA/NRA Action Pistol, I would go POA. YMMV.
