That quote is hilarious. You've got to love that British humor. I was just in London a couple weeks ago on business, and I couldn't find anyone who had seen Shaun of the Dead. That's one of my favorites.

at least it doesnt lead all the way up to the firing mechanisms like glocks do

Actually, although the cavity on the XD 9mm does become solid about 2 inches inside the hole, if you will look at the XD.45ACP you will notice that the cavity is open to where the grip safety is visible.

If this cavity disturbs you, I might even suggest using the cavity to mount a lanyard stud. A magwell & frameplug set (pistolgear.com) could then be added for a finishing touch.
