New XD owner

Well, Soon to be new.. I just put an XD9 on layaway (I'm poor, so it's taking me a while) but I do have a couple questions about the pistol.
I was wondering, really, if there are any down sides to it. I've read a lot about the XD series of pistols, and have yet to hear of any actual problems it may have.

The first pistol I ever bought was a Mauser 1914, little pocket gun. It also uses a stricker, but with this, it tends to slam fire every time it gets cocked, which put me off to Stricker fired pistols for a long time, because I figure this would be an inherant thing. (Funny, I bought it for just a few cherry bombs from an old neighbor in Illinois.. he thought it was broken, because he couldn't figure out how to close the slide )

After that I got an S&W Model 10 from around, I'd say 1960 (going by the serial number) and that has proven very reliable. (most revolvers I shoot tend to misfire.. but then again, all other revolvers were taurus) But then I heard where I live now (missouri) that you weren't allowed to use a revolver for concealed carry.

So I go to the gun store (an overpriced pawn shop, but this XD is new, never fired) and put money down on the XD9 so I could have something to carry when I get my permit.

I know a lot about firearms in general, but when it comes down to specific models, I don't know a thing until I tend on buying it (I did the same with all my SKS's, shotguns, and Mauser rifles) But I cannot find a single article or anything that tells of any faults the XD series of pistols might have (namely the XD9 four inch barrel)

Ok, so I've written a lot, and I'm going to go now.

No downsides

I really don't see any downsides to buying any SA XD handgun. If you like the 9mm then you made a good choice. I am sure it will be a really good shooter with slight recoil making it very easy to control.

Revolvers are perfectly legal for concealed carry in Missouri. The XD is a safe and reliable pistol as you will soon find out. Browse the forum and you will get a broad feel of the XD series of pistols.

The only downside I see is it's relatively new when compared to many other handguns and there isn't a well established aftermarket parts market for it (yet), but based on the couple of discussions I've had with them it's coming. They've said the time to market on these things is typically 12-18 months.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 12-18 month lead time long expired?

Actually, the only handguns I've shot were .38 special, and .32 ACP before.. I wanted a .40 though, but that's just me
