All this talk about locking blocks....
... got me interested enough to inspect mine closely.
I bought this XD40 Tactical in 2003 and put around 8000-10,000 rounds through it. No +P rounds of any sort have been shot, just medium range loads. As you can see, my locking block shows some wear, but no obvious problems. ![]() Wait a minute, better drag out the 14X loupe and have a closer look. OH SNAP! ![]() There is a smaller crack beginning on the right side, but I couldn't get a good photo of it. I suppose I'll call Springfield and see about getting an RMA for it. |

This seems to be occuring with the .40's more than the other calibers.

That sucks! Send it in to SA they had mine back to me in eight days with a new block and refunded me for the cost of shipping it to them.

Good camera work. One of my 40 Tacs has over 18K thru it. Show lots of wear but no cracks. Keep in mind I have only shot factory range loads, 168ish PF reloads and bunny fart 140 PF reloads. I have used my brothers 20x lighted magnifier to examine it recently. Think I will check it more often now on.

Unless there's a design defect that Croatia's corrected, then I suspect that you'll see the problem repeating itself. If your XD is throwing brass farther than 6-8', then, per Wolff Springs, you need a heavier recoil spring.
Folks who run light springs in their Glocks see similar problems, as well as exacerbated slide peening. |

I've used a 22 lb spring in this gun for most of its service life. |
