How hard is it to install Truglo Sights??? NEED ADVISE
My XD is currently at Canyon Creek getting a trigger job. I wanted Rich to install the Truglo TFO sight for me while he has my gun. The problem is-The sight are not available and won't be for 3-4 weeks.
Based on his reputation, I really wanted Rich to do the work. So what do I do? Have Rich hang onto my gun until the sight are available or just have him do the trigger job and return the gun. I can then have a local gunsmith do the work. I want the job done right. Is installing sights a no brainer for any gunsmith? ____________________ UPDATE: I just talked to the two local gunsmiths. Neither of them have the XD sight pusher. Would you let a gunsmith install sights on your XD without the XD specific pusher? Thanks, XDFB

It's a no brainer for a real gunsmith, with the proper tools. Well, it might be hard, but he could do it and not tear anything up. Mine charged me $10, and said they were the hardest to remove sights he had ever worked on. I bet a parts-changer or bubba gunsmith could tear it up for you pretty well. But it's not rocket science. It's not like CC has some magic way of pushing them out, and pushing the old ones in.

I was in the exact same boat. My gun is at CC for a trigger job, and at the last minute I decided to have Rich install the sights while he had it. I ended-up getting the Dawson adjustable "target" sights from Pistol Gear, and Old School is sending them directly to Rich for me.
As for the TFOs, we might be out of luck there (I want TFOs on my XD-9SC). From what some other posts in the forum indicate, it will be a while before the TFOs are back in stock anywhere. I did talk to the smith that works out of the local Gander Mountain store about installing the sights. He said he hadn't done an XD before (which scares me a bit), but he was confident that he could do it without any problems... At a rate of $1/minute. From what I have read about the difficulties of changing XD sights, that $1/minute could add-up real quick! I'll probably just hold out on the TFOs until I send my SC to XD-HS2000 for DuraCoat, or to CC for a trigger job. |
