What are your thoughts on this XD- service9mm
Well after visiting the local gunshop/smith that I seldom visit, because it is not very local, I went home very frustrated(what is new). The salesman spoken with about XDs continuously tried to push the 9mm stating things like "It's great NEW super protectant melonite finish," and how other caliber barrels can be installed"( the only barrel the can be installed is/was a 9mm and there already was a efk firedragon 9mm installed.., it was inconspicuous but I noticed it. This shop has already tricked my into spending my cash on useless gun-related items.
I'm becoming sick of being mislead, though they seem to have a new sale everyweek on something shiney and slick that seems too good to be true. Now unless pre-.45 ACP XDs magically have a melonite finish which is really difficult to believe I am going to discontinue shopping there where I may be constantly lied to about guns though I really love to do business with them with my next gun purchase, because they have such low prices.

Was this a new service? If so, it is possible that it had the melonite finish. However, this sounds like another sales man who doesn't know what he's talking about. When I go to a gun shop, all I expect from the salesmen is my change.

If I were you.....I would take my business elsewhere. It is a shame how some gun "jerks" will stand behind a counter and try to con people into purchasing BS add-ons. They can be almost as bad as car dealers. Wait until you hear one of them try to sell you an extended warranty.....ON AN XD!

It's my understanding that only the 45 has the Melonite finish. The XD9 is still a great pistol though, but unless it was a great deal, I'd find a new place to do business. The Gunzone website used to have a funny article about gun shop guys who lied every time they opened their mouths.

I was looking at one the other day - a green one. I shot some 9mm about a week ago, it was the first time in over 10 years I'd shot the 9mm (I've only been shooting 45 acp) - I had a lot of fun shooting the 9mm. The price, $419, was good and I liked the two tone look. I don't know how to tell if it's got the melonite on it - anyone know?

So far, only the new .45 ACP model has the melonite finish. The others still have the old Bruniral finish which is less durable. But I wouldn't let that stop me from getting the two-tone army green.

They just got some brand new XD-9's and XD-40's at the Gander Mountain near me. I mean really brand new. I don't know if its the grease/oil on them or what, but their finish looks extremely similar if not the same as the XD-45. These guns all had the gizmos and case that the XD-45 comes with also, plus they were seperated into a new case with the new arrivals. I could easily see how a clerk might be mistaken that the new arrivals have the Melonite finish, because it sure looked the same as the XD-45.

Why didn't you call him on it? I would have. When I bought my gun, the salesman told me that the XD has the same finish as the glock does. I guess same color = same finish? I told him they don't, and he still thought they did. Anyway I knew better so I felt comfortable about my purchase, as I wasn't going into it blindly following his information. Just the other day I was in looking at guns, someone was looking at an sub compact xd9 and were asking about the accuracy of the gun. The salesman was like, well it won't be very accurate at all other than at very very close range because of the short sight picture. I just sat there thinking in my head, what a moron.
