xd warranty email
After the discussions around here lately about whether or not the warranty applies to the original owner or to the gun itself, I decided to email springfield. Last year I sent an xd in for some warranty work, of which I was the 3rd owner (i told them that I was not the original owner). Springfield fixed the problem (free of charge) and paid for the shipping both ways....this led me to assume that the warranty covered the gun for any owner, not just the original. Either springfield has changed their policy on this since I sent my gun in for repair, or this is just what they tell those who ask about the warranty.
Here is the email i sent and the reply: Sent: Monday, March 27, 2006 6:41 PM To: Sales Subject: Springfield XD warranty I know that your line of xd's come with a lifetime warranty. My question is, does this warranty only apply to the orignal owner, or is any subsequent owner of the firearm covered? Thank you, Jon Alley .................................................. ........................................... I think this is a CYA answer. They may very well cover your gun under warranty even if you are not the first owner, but they reserve the right to tell you no.
SA isn't going to piss off a potential customer over a broken extractor, but if you send in an abused gun and expect a new one to replace it under warranty, they probably aren't going to cover it.

Funny how you sent them an email on monday and got a response back and i sent them an email last week asking about different parts and their parts policy and i am yet to hear back from them. SA needs to get their act together it seems they keep changing all of their policies. I thought i just read somewhere where someone just had there xd fixed free of cost and they were not the original owner.

I called them directly and asked about policy. It was presented to me as There are two sets of warranty coverage. Cosmetic items are considered first owner only. Actual functional problems with the handgun are covered because the company needs to know about them whether you are the "1st owner or the 150th" (direct quote).
If you want them to cover the finish, you need to purchase a handgun new. If you are looking to pickup a handgun and are worried more about functional issues and want to save a little money, then the information I got by phone would indicate that it is definitely covered (which would also be substantiated by the numerous second-owner submitted issues on this forum and SA's response to them).

Does the language in the written warranty say, "original owner?"

my email with the same question got the original owner policy answer but if even if you aren't the original owner, we still look at it and see what we can do.

I recently sent a 5yo Sig232 back for warranty repair. Sig didn't ask if I was the first owner, and I didn't volunteer the information.
