Extractor Question!!!!
Hey guys is there a difference in the extractor size for the 9mm and .40 cal. XD's. Im posting this question because im gaving ectractor problems with my Xd 9mm conversion barrel for my .40 tactical. The extractor doesn't seem to be gripping the rim of the case correctly, so Im in need of help..Thanks Paun45

That is a good question, *emails S.A. once again*
Hopefully there are no issues with the XD extractor.. Curious, does anyone know if a 9mm cartridge rim is generally thinner than a .40 S&W cartridge rim? Or does a cartridge rim width change depending on the manufacturer of the ammunition or are there set standards? I'm guessing there are high set standards in effect when it comes to cartridge rims, otherwise there would be chaos.

The rim on the 9mm is smaller in diameter. Therefore there is less surface area for the .40 extractor to grab. I'm always surprised to hear how well these conversions work, because there is very little for the extractor to grab.

Interesting, Thanks for sharing your information farmer, I wonder if 9mm and .40 extractors are interchangable, perhaps with modifications.

Fortunately for those using 9mm conversion barrels in Glocks, the extractors are interchangable. Have a friend who shoots a G22 with a Lonewolf 9mm conversion barrel. He's using the G22 ejector and extractor, with G17 magazines, with excellent reliability.
Could be that the same is true for XDs. I'll be following this to find out. |

The extractors are the same. A conversion barrel will not be 100% reliable as the breach face is still sized for the .40. 9 mm cases are a smaller diameter and will not always extract reliably in a slide designed for 40.
There have been many threads here on this issue. For some it works all the time for others it barely works. http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic....537&highlight= |
