Is your ejector broke?

It is either a broken ejector or a bad extractor.

ejector looks fine..everything looks and feels fine...I use CLP from Breakway...same stuff I always use...I thought maybe I was limpwristing but why after 600 rounds would I start to do that.. I guess I have to take it to Gander Mountain..they have a one year warranty on all their sales.. I guess that is better than mailing it back to SA and paying shipping etc. Just frustrated that after 1 month this is happending..and will it keep happening after it gets fixed. I am loosing confidence now in this gun.

If the ejector is not broken you must have a extractor problem.

Look closely and see if it is chiped or broken at the end. If not there could be some brass or other debris lodged in there holding it too far out. Cleaning this out could fix your problem.

It could also need to be tensioned.

Field strip the pistol and remove the barrel from the slide. Place a round under the extractor and see how it fits. That can tell you a lot about whats going on.

Also give the chamber a good cleaning. A very dirty or rough chamber can cause this problem sometimes.

I checked the extractor..and not having another one to compare it too its hard to say if a piece is broken but I am 99% sure it is ok..no sharp edges or odd looking corners etc..I did put a round in there when it was field stripped and it seems to grasp the casing pretty good. I did notice it catches it towards the bottom and not in the middle but read eleswhere that this is the noraml spot an XD extractor grabs the casing. The gun was spotless before I started shooting..Cleaned after every session..thouroghly with CLP and Hoppes #9. Only thing I can think of is the extractor out of tension etc. THere is not gunk etc in the extractor that is causing it to "stick out"..it sits tightly flush as it should..

Bobby, still haven't gotten around to closely examining an XD. How do you adjust the tension on the extractor? I'd have thought it was a spring-driven extractor similar to Glock's, with no adjustment.

I think I'd do a little probing, cleaning and polishing before I shipped that pistol off or returned it. Whatever's wrong is probably something really simple.

When you place the round against the breech face and slide it under the extractor it should take a bit of force to get it under there.

The extractor should hold the round firmly in place and you should be able to shake the slide to some degree and the round should stay in place.

It is hard for me to explain just how much tension it should have.
