xd 40 sc bad sub magazine.
Well the gun fires great. But when I used my nine round magazine I loaded it with 6 shots by hand. Everytime I fired the third round it would fail to feed the fourth. I was using the Winchester white box stuff and thought that might be the problem. So I bought a box from the range of better ammo and it still had the problem. The full size magazine did not have one problem at all with either of the ammo. I do love the way this gun fires. The groups were all pretty close and I was able to put it in the target on every shot. Incidentall I could clear the feed and reload the round in the magazine and would fire fine. I am going to call springfield on Monday and get a new magazine. I do love the gun after about 150 rounds. BTW the gunsmith at the shop took the magazine down and could not find anything wrong and reoiled the magazine fore me with the same results. Let me know if anyone else has had this problema nd what they did to fix it. New magazine or more rounds throught the magazine. Sorry if the report isnt that great but I liove the gun but I do not want to have to deal with a FTF everytime I use the compact magazine.
I did borrow my post from the range report section. I was wondering if anyone else had bad sub .40 magazines from th factory and if Springfield took care of it with little problem?? Bill |

Hmmm.. couple of things:
1. How does it work fully loaded? 2. Have you tried the ole 1911 trick? After loading mag firmly smack it on your hand, from the rear side.. i.e. where the round holes are cut. This aligns all them the same in the mag. 3. Compared the mag lips to the working one to see if there is a burr or unusaul bend? 4. Checked your extractor for damage? Being u are short rounding the laoding, could be spring tension isn't enough to constantly feed. Of course, I am probably off base on the above, but hey.. it's sumthing. SA is good on replacing stuff so that's always a good option. TxStorm |

Thanks for the reply. Yep I did the smackit to the back to make sure its seated (Missing my old Army Kevlar for something to hit it on lol)_. It looks the same as the full capcity as far as no burrs or anything. THe gunsmith at the range also inspected the magazine ( tore it donw even). and couldnt find anything obvious. If there was a problem with the extractor on the gun I was thinking it would be random shells not the same round everytime Loaded six in the magazine (9 round capable) and I would fire the third shot and it would always fail to feed the the fourth. But please keep coming with the suggestions.
Incidentally I cleaned the gun today and couldnt resist putting the Pearce extension on the (suspected) defective magazine. WOW what a difference in feel that made. |

I just installed a Pearce Grip on my 40SC, too. HUGE difference in feel.
I'm guessing that the spring in your 9rnd mag has a weak spot in it.
