Cleaning question...

According to the XD manual, step 7 says I need to run a solvent wetted brush through the barrel, then 8. says to clean it with a dry patch. It also says if necessary, repeat. I did not clean my XD before shooting and I only put about 100 rounds through it, and I had to go to work so it sat uncleaned for about 4 hours. I cleaned it with a wetted bristle brush and then with a dry patch and the patch was dark black so I went through it with the brush again and again the dry patch was cleaning out a lot of dark material. I went through it with the wetted brush and dry patch another 3 or 4 times and the patch still came out with residue. Is it just really dirty or am I rubbing off material from inside the barrel with the brush? How many times should I have done that? Thanks.

You are most likely still removing old powder and residue from shooting, curious, what kind of ammunition was used? Some ammunitons are known to make your gun dirtier than others after firing, not purposefully of course, but it is an an unwanted effect. Just keep cleaning amigo

I used WWB 40 S&W 165gr FMJ. After the 5th cleaning, it seemed to be preatty clean. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt damaging the barrel. I could just see myself damaging it when I was trying to help it. I have that sorta luck with mechanical things.

I know what you mean unfortunately. I absolutely hate lawnmowers and a field strip would not hurt.
