Extended slide release

I dont know if this has been address or not but I cant find a post through the search. I'm curious if an extended slide release has been made and if they're any pictures of it. I'm really thinking about getting that used XD40 I saw but would like a longer slide release.

I don't believe so but I would like one too. However, the slide release is very easy to work compared to a Sig P229

I've often wondered....what is the reason people would want an extended slide release?

Other than for field stripping, or for clearing a jam, I don't think I use a slide release. One of my guns doesn't even have a slide release. Which I only miss when I want to disassemble the gun (Kel Tec, in which case an empty magazine is the only way to lock the slide back...no big deal).

I can see how an extended slide release can get in the way. I don't see an upside though. I'm sure there must be one since they make them for people that want them. I just haven't figured out why people do.

Peace,
D.

I wouldn't mind having an extended slide release. That's the method I prefer for closing my slide, but being a lefty, it's awkward using my trigger finger to push it down.

I guess I'm stuck with the slingshot method for now.

That's supposed to be better for your gun anyway. At least when you're not in a hurry.

I guess that's what I don't understand...why would you (anyone) prefer to use a slide release rather than "slingshot"?

Peace,
D.

It gets boths hands back on the gun sooner after a slide lock mag change than the sling shot method. Economy of motion. For action pistol competitions where winning is measured in hundredths of a second, time matters immensely. An extended slide release as with an extended mag release could reduce time required to get back on target. They also allow easier access for those with short and/or fat fingers.

It also goes back to training. I have just recently begun using the slingshot method, and it is amazing how hard it is to unlearn old habits.

The military taught us to use the slide release (1911) and I just never got away from it.

Something about old dogs comes to mind.

Just curious, how is it supposed to be better for the gun? Honestly, I've never heard of that before.
