First time shooting in years w/ new XD9SC!

I just went out shooting for the first time in many, many years this evening. I put 350 rounds through my new XD9SC, and whoo boy, I'm luvvvvin' it hahah! So much so that I bought an annual membership to the indoor range I went to up here in Baltimore County. What a wicked bunch of fun. My fingers are sore from loading my mags (I have 3 extended capacity and one 10-round mag). Not one jam or FTE. A couple times a shot never happened, but I think it's because I _blow_ and I probably didn't fully pull the trigger.

So I wanna say, it's an absolute pleasure to be a member of the XD club! I've learned a lot from this forum already, and I'm sure that will only continue as I actually get to learn my gun and shooting technique more fully.

Regarding my absolute BLOWING, I am noticing that most of my shots are generally going low (I was shooting at 25 feet). Any recommendations from you folks on what mistakes noobs often make that lead to low shots?

Thanks,

Nick

Great. I share your enjoyment of the 9mm. Watch out though you will soon be acquiring other pistols. I did. Love shooting all of them.

Shooting low - practice target

Someone posted a link to a target that is split up into pie-shaped sections, with each section carrying an explanation of the common reasons for being off target in that particular area. Does anyone have the link handy?

Congrats and welcome! The XD is on of the most enjoyable guns to shoot. No idea why, I've got some real beauties but I really enjoy shooting my XD-40 SC for some strange reason.

Try this, best pie-chart target I have seen.

I own a lot of handguns but my XD service 9mm has become my favorite gun to shoot.

I can shoot it better than any centerfire handgun I own.

For some reason a lot of people say they can shoot the XD better than other guns.

Welcome to the XDtalk nickgold, make sure the muzzle of your gun is not drooping forward, even though the sights are aligned horizontally they may still be vertically misaligned,
I can say this from personal experience gained from shooting at the range awhile back. All my shots were hitting low" because the pistol muzzle was "drooped" from mishandling and I was standing in a half cocked position.

At my next range trip I plan on "ticketing" and cataloging these minor shooting errors myself for personal reference because they are a nusiance and if someone isn't watching your shoots 24/7 the errors will go unoticed.

I had a discouraging thing happen today with my XD9 Service. I was shooting unsatisfactory groups, in my mind, slightly to the left and was wondering why my attempts to correct it were to no avail. One of the range guys who trains swat teams, anti-terrorist squads etc called over to a friend and asked if he had is stock 1911 Kimber. The guy said he did and handed it to me. I took the weapon and fired five rounds rather quickly. First thing I noticed was how quick the single action weapon fired as opposed to my XD. Second thing I noticed was that I had a 1 & 1/2 inch group right off the bat with a weapon I never fired before. I mean some of the rounds went right through the same friggin holes! I looked at Mr. Swat and friends and they all had that "Nuff Said" smile...

I don't wanna trade in my XD's!
