Major Roll pin problems.....and a Grip Frame Cutdown

Hey all,
Hoping against hope that someone will be able to give me a secret tip or some inspired idea here.
I bought a Gen 3 HS2000 a while back. It has a trigger job and re-finish, sights, etc just like I wanted. I happily shot about 3-400 rounds through without a hitch. I took it to the range a couple weeks ago and got nothing but lite strikes with it. Figured I had left some oil on the slide with cleaning and that it was causing the striker to bind up. That or my roll pin was broken. Got home and tried to disasemble the slide, only to find that someone had already tried to remove it. The punch or whatever apparatus used was the wrong size and it really buggered up the pin inside the hole. My punch wanted to keep sinking inside the pin instead of seating on top of it and pushing it out. I then looked a little closer at the top of the slide and it looks (compared to my XD and other HS') like maybe they tried to drill the pin out. THat or the pin was thinner ID than stock? Looking inside it looks as if the pin has "folded" in on itself and that maybe it is protruding down into the open area of the striker.
Sooooo...any suggestions?
Gunsmith?
Try to drill it out?

I'm open to suggestions. Handy with the tools, but scared to screw up my slide (if it is not already )
Thanks for any suggestions folks.

Troy

A gunsmith may/should be able to fix you up, but the better skills are sometimes lost on what gets called gunsmiths these days. If you think that the pin can still be driven out, I can fab up a custom drift that will just barely fit the hole inside the slide to try to catch what is left of the pin if they tried to drill it out. It still may not work, but it wouldn't cost you anything.
Let me know if you want to give it a try.

Try using a drift pin to drive the bad one out instead of a punch . This might concentrate the "push" to the OD shoulder of the torn pin instead of the ID, thus maybe relieving the tendency for it to fold inward.
I have also used the "head" end of a small finishing nail for the same action.

Brownell's sells special roll-pin punches. They should fix your problem, if it is a standard American size. There are some other tool and industrial supply outfits that deal in metric sizes of things like drills. You could try www.mcmaster.com . It is really full of good stuff.

Firstly, let me say to all.....Thank You.
It is very true indeed that the above is the main reason for this being my ONLY forum that I still frequent. Don and Ed, thanks for the offers. I will try to find a punch tomorrow that fits a little closer to tolerance, and/or a roll-pin punch (thanks Bad Flynch). If that does not work, and neither does a drift pin (good idea Warhead'z), I may take you up on the custom punch idea Don. Ed, I think I have a store a couple blocks from here where I can get a new roll pin; but again, I will let you know.
I also have a Gander pretty close, and a friend or two have been happy with the Smith's work there, so if all else fails.....
Thanks again for the advice gentlemen. I will let you all know how it turns out.
Troy
