Locking block problems of a different flavor. **UPDATE**

Well, my XD40 is going back to SA in the next couple of days. I believe the bevel in my locking block is cut deeper than it should be. This causes the feed ramp on the barrel to overhang the top of the bevel, creating a lip. This lip will occasionally cause rounds not to feed properly. The bevel also has unfinished horizontal grooves in it. I have handled over a dozen different XD's, and mine is the only one I have ever seen with these grooves, and the bevel is cut deeper on mine than any of these others. I believe after the bevel was cut too deeply, that finishing the job by polishing out the grooves would have only made the problem worse by making the bevel deeper, and in turn, creating more of a lip for the bullet to catch on.

My last time out, I noticed jamming on the first couple rounds out of each magazine. (I tried 4 different mags, it wasn't mag related) I wrote in to Megan at SA, and got an RMA number and shipping instructions. I have no doubt they will make it right, but it's still frustrating. Maybe I'll get the next-generation locking block that all you guys keep talking about.

On a brighter note, I made a deal to get a LNIB SA Loaded 1911 in Stainless Steel from a guy on one of the 1911 boards. It won't be here until the first week of April, but I can wait for it because I'm getting what I think is a really good deal. I wouldn't have gotten the Taurus I was waiting on any sooner, and I'm only spending about $50 more than I'm estimating the Taurus would have cost me.

Anyway, that's my long-winded story. I'll post updates when I get them.

I have a SA "Loaded" in stainless. (9151). It's just an amazing gun.

It's the only gun I've ever owned that has been 100% reliable in every way. Probably around 4,000 rounds through it and not one single jam of any kind.

It's as accurate as my 6 7/8" Ruger .22 target pistol.

It is an easier gun on my hands than my XD9 Subcompact.

When you field strip the gun, you'll know it's not a Taurus. I'll leave the details as a surprise for you to see. You'll know.

Peace,
D.

I'm as happy about the 1911 as I am bummed about the XD.

Delija, did yours come with a full length guide rod? Are there any real benefits to it? It seems like it just makes it harder to field strip, but I'm no expert. The only 1911 experience I have is with a 70 series Colt, and it didn't have one.

Good choice .... I have a Springer 1911 Loaded .... very nice. It comes with a full length 2 piece guide rod. Benefits, it depends on who you talk to. It really isn't any harder to field strip ( once you get use to the guide rod ) than your normal basic 1911 such as the Colt you spoke of. I've seen some peeps get ride of the guide rod and use a G.I. plug and cap. It looked nice with the stainless cap ...

I'll take one of the feed ramp before I send it off. It's been a pretty reliable gun, but I think I need to get this issue resolved before it can be called a reliable gun.

Well, it's been shipped to Springfield now. In my frustration, I boxed it up without taking any pictures of the locking block, and since I used all my packing tape mummifying and laminating the box, I didn't want to cut it open. Cost was just shy of $48, using the least expensive method UPS would allow. Now I'm waiting on two Springfield handguns to come in the mail!

I'm packing the Kel-Tec P11 I sold to my Bro-In-Law until the XD gets back. He was kind enough to loan it back to me. My .357 is too big to comfortably carry.

Now the waiting begins.
