Pondering the XD9-SC bi-tone

Been lurking a couple days, finally joined today.

I"m seriously looking at the XD9 SC for a carry weapon. Nebraska is working on passing a CCW bill into law. There's still the issue of Lincoln banning CCW, since Chambers filibuster'd during the pre-emption ammendment, but I digress.

I have no shot an XD of any size or caliber..but I did handle the service model at Scheels. I like the ergonomics, but the texture on the backstrap really dug into my palm, and I could only imagine it tearing me up when shooting (I don't wear gloves when shooting) even with a solid grip.
Anyone think I'm nuts, or will I get used to it, or is it not as bad as it seems upon first impression?

The grip looked like it was part of the frame...i'm guessing no after market grips for this? maybe some stick on pads, but not swappable grips right?

My next question was gonna be about grip height, and thinking my pinky wouldn't fit, but I already saw another post about the magazine grip extensions for $10...issue solved.

I hear the finish isn't great on the frame (I'm aware the 45's have a new finish this year though)...which is why I decided on stainless slide. Good idea, yes?

I plan to shoot it plenty, since you should be proficient in any self defense weapon...is the 3" barrel really accurate to 25yds like so many claim? as accurate as the shooter at least?

It doesn't look like I'll be able to shoot any XD rental in my area, so this'll be yet another leap of faith like the 3 hand guns I own(ed) so far in life.

Ok, I'll shut up. Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom.

I have had my SC9 for almost 2yrs and carry it ccw all of the time. For me, it shoots well at 25yrds, not as well as I used to shoot, but that's due to age.

I have never had a problem with the backstrap and have put hundreds of rounds thru it at the range each time I go. That said, they do have an inner tube type grip you can put on it. If you want to go the inexpensive route, you basically get a bicycle inner tube, measure it and cut it and put it on. Or, you can find a gun store in your area that sells the pre made ones. That should help and a lot of people use them.

If you do a search here, you should find some of the past threads that talk about that type of grip.

As far as the finish, there are forum sponsors that offer different finishes if you don't want to go with the bi tone. There are a lot of people here who like the bi tone and buy it; I'm not one of those as I don't care for it's looks tho I like it better than OD (Yucch). Some of the Duracoat finishes by AJames and the Fusion finish by Rich at Canyon Creek look great.

If you take care of your stock finish, you probably won't have any problems with it. I just have normal wear, except where a small part makes contact with my skin on the right side of the top corner of the slide. This is due to the sweat and salt in my skin I surmise, but I have no rust.

You might also ck with SA and ascertain, if you are able, when they will have the melonite finish on the 45acp available on all of their guns. If it isn't too long of a wait, it might be worthwhile to do so.

Good luck and hopefully, welcome to the world of XD; you will love it.

Sorry for the 2 above posts. It would post and when I tried twice more, I got "Critical Error." Then all 3 posted

Two words for you:

GET IT!

I took my XD9SC bitone to the range today and I'm falling in love with it more and more every time I shoot it. I really think the bitone is a good choice if you plan on carrying it and want it to continue to look nice. You don't have to worry about the finish rubbing off from the holster.
