Anyway to remove scratches from a bi-tone?

I realized now how my bi-tone 40 recieved the 2+ inch scratch on the slide after finding a new one about an inch. It is from the slide release lever when bringing the slide forward with the lever up.

Is there anyway to buff out these scrathes without adding anymore character to my slide?

I was also thinking about filing down the lever slightly to prevent this from happening again.

Never done it myself, but I've been told a slow buffing wheel and some jewelers rouge can take those scratches out.
EDIT: Out of stainless. I've never even seen a bitone XD. But from the pictures I've seen, a buffing wheel might shine it up a little too much.

UD.

It may be possible to lightly remove the scratch area and then bead blast to get some texture back, but you might just end up with mis-matched texture. If that was the case, you could then hit the whole slide lightly with sandpaper and then still blast for uniform texturing. Sand blasting may give too toothy of a look, so the right media would be important.
You might be able to match some texures in small areas by laying the right grit of sandpaper over the area and tapping it ever so lightly with a hammer. This may work directly on the scratch, or give it enough to hide the shine that the scratch left.
WIth that in mind, maybe just the right blast media may do a credible job altogether.

Just guessing, no experience.
