I hope your GF don't shoot you!

I would get an alarm system and maybe a dog.

+1 on this. The only warning shot they get is if I miss the first time.

+1.

technically, there is no such thing as a "warning shot". the minute you fire a shot, you have used deadly force. we're accountable for every round that leaves the barrel.

I think your plan sounds pretty good, with the exception of the "warning shot". as someone else mentioned, be very careful that your GF doesn't take you out with that 870.

if there have been shots fired, etc., she's gonna be under massive stress, probably about to lose it....be careful.

one other thing you didn't mention, but may have already thought of...does your plan involve lights for both you & the GF? gotta identify targets....

oh yeah, one more thing.... if the BG had a weapon, you'll need to disarm him once he's down, preferably not touching the weapon...just kick it away.

-JJ

PS - and move to a state with Castle Doctrine laws ASAP....it's ridiculous that your state protects those who would invade your home/endanger your family. a state like that doesn't deserve your residence, or tax dollars. just my 2 cents...

Quite the opposite in my class... you NEVER shoot to 'kill'. You shoot to 'stop the threat.'

Well the laws must be very different from state to state. We were taught to deflate the BG (meaning aim for the chest) and to keep shooting until they were no longer a threat. Now the question was raised " does that mean we shoot to kill"? And the answer was in so many words yes. The example given was this, there was an incident were a guy was in his bed sleep and was awakened by a noise he heard downstairs. This guy didn't have a land line he had a cell phone that he left in his truck. Guy grabs his gun goes down stairs and sees BG in his fridge. He attemps to sneak out of his own house to get to his phone to call the cops. BG hears him and yells "what are you doing in my house". To make a long story short the BG was drunk and was in the wrong house. He rushes the home owner and ends up getting shot in the leg and arm. In the home owners mind he was just trying to wound him. In the end the home owner was sued by the bad guy and the bad guy won. In the court room the home owner was told by the cops and the judge, he should've killed him. Now this does not mean that if you put two in his chest and he's down but still alive you can execute him. Because if you do, now you can go to jail because in the eyes of the law he was no longer a threat. The point here is in missouri don't shoot to wound.
