Is this what I hope it's not?
I read the threads on cracked locking blocks with interest, and thought to myself, "Self, you sure are lucky you have one of the original HS2Ks and don't have the problems folks seem to be having with the newer XDs." I decided to take a look anyway to show what the original quality was like, and this is what I found:
![]() So, tell me: am I seeing what I think I'm seeing? Gen. 1 HS2000 purchased in May 2000. I don't have a lot of money to shoot, so it only has around 2500 rounds through it. I had Robar put their NP3 on it back in 2003.

I'm going to say it appears that what you think you are seeing, is actually what you think it is. I'm curious what the new versions that are suppose to relieve stress look like, cuz I have no clue if the one in my gun is an old or new style.

Rotten luck. Get on the horn with SA and get that taken care of, pronto.
I've been keeping an eye on mine. It is good so far with about 2800 rounds through it. I think that is about the best pic (quality wise) of a cracked locking block that I have seen on here. Good luck jonas

Awww Snaaaap! That shizzz be cracked 'na 'm' sayin'?
Seriously...it's cracked. I THOUGHT my locking block was cracked on my XD-SC but in reality they were machining marks when I looked at it throught a 10X magnifier....yours are cracks. I'm sorry to say that it looks like it's time to ship it to SA for a new LB. I'm guessing that shipped and back to your door will be 2-3 weeks max. The new blocks have two holes radiused out of the corners where the cracks usually occur. I'm sure someone will post a pic of a new block so I'll leave it up to them.

Yup. I'd would say you have the condition. Call SA and send it in. They should replace it.
The new locking blocks have sress relief cuts milled into into the corners. |

My biggest disappointment is that the new locking block will not be NP3 coated like this one is, and SA is under no obligation (legally) to NP3 coat the new one since mine was bought before SA ever got into the mix. It would be awesome customer service, though. What would happen if I continue to shoot this thing w/ the cracked locking block? I've never noticed a problem when shooting it.

loonybin,
Unfortunately that is what you hoped it wasn't. Good picture of it by the way. As for your question in reference to shooting it with the fractures as they are, I would guess that it would be ok as long as they don't progress any further. I would be willing to bet that there are a few if not many locking blocks similar to your's that are still going strong and probably will go undetected by the owner and yetnot have/will nothave any failures. You should continue to monitor the stress fractures on your LB to see if they continue to expand. It's possible that they may have leveled out and might not get any worse, however keep an eye on it. To be on the safe side it probably would be a good idea to contact SA to see what they have to say. |

Oh man, that's bad news. I have put about 3000 rounds through mine since Jan...I will be inspecting mine tonight, I hope I don't see any bad news
