where to start polishing feed ramp

Hi,

I have a xd-40 sc and I was wondering how to people polish their feedramp. I heard this would enhance feeding since I am having a few problems with that. Thanks in advance.

I am no expert, but I own a Keltec, so I am good with my Dremel
I bought the polishing kit for the Dremel. It has a cone shaped rouge that is perfect for the feed ramp. It also comes w/ a polish. Very easy to do, and less than $10.
Sorry to hear about your problems.

I used 600 and 800 grit sand paper to start. Then I used 1500 grit sand paper to smooth everything out. Make sure you go in an up and down direction, and NOT left and right. Getting the Dremel kit like justfish said will give you everything you need to polish to a shine.

What does the finish look like on the feed ramp now?

From what I understand most (many?) XD's come from the factory with a polished feed ramp. However I don't think they polish the chamber.

At any rate don't attack it with sandpaper
You just want to polish the finish and not remove material.

Get a dremel, some felt tips, some compound, and go at it.

I took some super fine sandpaper like 3M's P1000 put a few drops of oil on it, wrapped it around a empty .40 case and lightly sanded it in a verticial motion . , I then did this with P1400 and P1600. When I was finished I polished with a low speed buffing wheel and some light buffing compund.

I use a dremel alot when trimming houses instaling custom lighting but would not ever think of useing my Dremel on a firearm.

Cool info dremmels definitely are useful multipurpose tools, I'm going to try to make a run to Home Depot tomorrow and see what they have in stock as far as sanding paper and dremels(I'll probably be walking up and down the isles like a chicken with it's head cut off, making sure I have everything I need to send my xdsc's black barrel finish strait to hell) if everything checks out with S.A.'s warranty with a stock xdsc.

Don't use the sand paper with the dremel. The only thing you should be using on the dremel is a felt wheel and the red polishing compound. If you do it by hand, the sand paper is the way to go.

Q-tip + Flitz + Elbow grease

The idea is to polish/smooth the feed ramp.
