XD-40 versus Walther P-22
I know its alittle off topic but Iv had a XD-40 for since October but my gf dose not like it at all she wants me to get her a P-22 we saw at the gun range the other day. Anybody tested or shot this gun before tell me if its a good reliable choice. It is a 22 caliber which haas no recoil so she can learn the basics before working her way up to the 40 which she is kinda afraid of cause of the recoil but she will shoot a shotgun anyday lol. Any help would be appreciated(I also looked at a SIG Mosquito)

Hey Mongoose,
Strike while that iron is hot!! I swapped a P22 for a revolver that I had and I couldn't be happier. First the rounds are dirt cheap and second it is a good opportunity for you to practice trigger control. The only downside is that the shells that tend to be that cheap are extremely dirty (people who know guns can explain why), but you definitely have to clean often. I say go for it, I wouldn't bother getting the one with the extension on the end, just get the shorter barrel. Anybody else?? T |

You didn't say you were looking for a self-defense gun, but in case you are, and I'm sure I don't really need to say this, but keep on walking past the .22's.
Anyway, as far as the P22 goes -- they're cheap, they're fun, but they're finicky about the ammo they like, some work great with anything, others great with nothing, some don't work at all. The triggers on them are nothing to write home about at all. I personally am biased towards the Browing Buckmark for .22 pistols, but the Ruger Mk.I/II/III guns are great as well. Maybe a 22/45? In any case, if she's just set on the P-22, then I say go for it -- anything that'll get her shooting. Be sure to remind her that they come in "three different colors!" (green, gray, and black). Chicks love things that come in different colors.

Thanks guys she picked the bitone with the laser at that lol but I wanted to make sure before I commited. She enjoys shooting but I got to get her up to date on control and target adquisition same as myself but thanks. Anybody knows what type of ammo it likes or does it vary from gun to gun. It is not for self defense Im waiting for the new law o pass in Delaware to go get it she probably will and by then I can get her a more appropriate handgun XD that is lol

I surprised my wife w/ one for Christmas, and she LOVES it. I wish it had a decocker, but other than that it is perfect for a woman. We have about 1000 round through it, everything from Minimags to Thunderbolts. Not even a hiccup. I want one for myself too.
I would skip the laser if you are trying to "teach" her w/ this gun. Thats just me. |

I shot my buddies p-22 and the thing shoots realy nice. I wouldnt mind picking one up in the future for plicking. I like how it comes with i think 3 different backstraps that you can change to your liking. I would go for it.

The P22 is nice but the SIG Mosquito is REAL NICE. I have shot them both and I am going with the SIG. I also have a Buckmark that I love but the Mosquito is a pretty good size. Oh and it has a decocker.

My wife and I both love to shoot our P22. I like the shorter barrel and she likes the longer barrel. Great pistol, I would highly recommend it!

Well I had a Mosquito for a month. The first one in New Mexico. And I traded it off quick. I'm not saying it was all bad, I mean it was an awesome gun for "Failure To (EVERYTHING)" drills. Maybe Sig has worked out the bugs, who knows. I actually bought it to get my Wife into guns. It worked, she showed up with a P22 two weeks after the Sig and we both loved it. The mosquito got traded for a XD9 Service and I found you guys. And ironically two weeks later a XD9SC followed the Wife home. Oh well, I hate when that happens. Anyway, the P22 is still around and still makes trips to the range-
