The amount of difference is subjective. As an example, I prefer a 16# spring in my Tacticals where others like 22# springs. To answer your question, the best thing to do is pick up a couple of springs and see what works best for you, your gun, and shooting style.

Little less felt with a bigger spring but I like the faster speed of the light springs.
Hks loader from pistol-gear is the one I use.Thay do soften a little after use

I always load by hand, tuffens the thumbs. My mags were a lot stiffer at first but there good now after a few months. I find it easyer to put the bottom of the mag on a flat stable surface, it makes it a bit better. I kinda use the tip of my left thumb to push down the rear of the round in the mag, as I insert the new one. Just like a mag loader, only I was born with thumbs, so it's free. lol.

I use this Glock Mag loader and it works fine with my XD mags. You can find it here, but I've seen it cheaper.

I paid another visit to the range last night, I opened the package with my new #22 recoil spring and noticed a smaller spring in the package as well. I do not recall ever having that small one in the package before.
Maybe I am getting forgetful in my old age. Any how, what the heck is that small spring for anyways?
