Jamming XD40SC

Hello everyone. I have a bit of a problem. I have a XD40SC where shells are not getting extracted and it's getting worse. The slide will go back but not go forward all the way. The shell is about 1/4 inch out of the chamber and the slide is trying to get another round into the chamber. At first I thought it was my wife because it was only happening to her but now it's happing to me(with a certain mag). It only happens with the extended mag and it has never happened with the short carry mag. I know the extended mag does not fall out of the gun since it is a tad wider than the carry mag so that makes the extended mag a snug fit in the gun. I can also see scrape marks on the side of the extended mag as if it's a tight fit. Would that be enough to not extract shells 12 times out of 100 but never a problem with the mag that wiggles around in there? Should I send it back for Warr or try to pinch the mag to make it shorter. It’s only like .08 or so wider.

Thanks.

Looks as though you have already found the answer...the magazine.
Try some of your other magazines (I'm assuming you have a couple more of the standard ones). It it doesn't extract with those, check the extractor and/or change the brand of ammo.

Thanks for taking the time to answer TomSwift. I guess my questions is could a mag that does not move around cause jamming? If so then I found my problem, if not then maybe it's something else.

I have an XD40SC also and have a couple problems with a round failing to load all the way. My problem I believe is break-in/ feed ramp polish problems. While the fact that your extended mag does not drop freely from the gun is a problem (since it should), I don't see how that could cause a failure to extract a casing. This sounds like an extractor problem. The magazine would be more likely to cause a failure to feed like the problems I've had, where the round is being stripped from the magazine is not fully inserted into the chamber. I believe this is referred to as a round being stovepiped.

I would replace your extended mag since it needs to be replaced, or tweaked, anyway. If your problem persists take a closer look at the extractor. Make sure you're not limp wristing when you shoot.

Actually this is called FTB or failure to battery. A stovepipe is when the spent brass gets jammed in the ejection port. Sticking out looking somewhat like a stovepipe.
