Questions for all XD owners
Hi all, I've been a registered user here for a long time but haven't been an active participant in the forums. The HS2000/XD family of pistols have intrigued me for quite sometime. Although I am a big Glock person (Glock 19 is my dept. issue weapon) and I don't have any co-worker or friends who personally own XDs, maybe you owners can shed your personal insight/experiences with me I would appreciated it as I may take the XD plunge in the future. I am not looking for why 'XD is better than Glock' selling points but some objective information. Thanks, D
I've heard that the newer crop of XDs will have the melonite finish, a big plus for Springfield as I have seen many complaints about the old finish. Can someone tell me about ejectors breaking on some models and Springfield not selling replacement parts to owners anymore? Thanks for all your help.

Well, owning both Glocks and XDs, I'll try and offer you some objective observations and compare the two.
Fit: An XD will feel better in your hand and will point more naturally. That said, if you're used to a Glock's grip, it may take a little getting used to. You should notice a better feel right away though. The XD is more bulky than a Glock and may be more difficult to conceal than a G19, and will be a bit heavier. Depending on whether you will carry or not, and your body type and method of carry, this may not be a big deal. Function: Not a whole lot of difference here. They both (for me) have been 100% reliable. They both diassemble easily. The XD has an added grip safety that the Glock does not. Both guns shoot exrtemely well and are more accurate than I am. Finish: With the advent of the Melonite finish on the new XDs, I'll give them similar marks in this area as well. One thing that remains to be seen is whether the internal metal parts of the XD are Melonite treated as well. If so, they will be as impervious to rust as those of the Glock. Reliability/Durability: Similar here too. Either gun will experience broken parts under the correct circumstances. I've heard about the XD extractors breaking, but I believe this has been corrected. I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong. THat said, parts availability is much better for the Glock as Springfield will not yet sell XD parts to the end users (you) and the aftermakrket has not had enough time to catch up with that of the Glock. Springfield does have a superior warranty and customer service plan though and so it may be a moot point if you don't work on your own guns. That help any? |

It's only a matter of time until they start selling them again to the general public. Any repairs to your XD must go through Springfield. I own a XD-9 Service and so far have zero issues with the gun after 3K rounds. No hiccups. It runs like a champ. |

I believe all broken ejectors have been related to full size mag w/o spacers in sub compacts , modified beretta mags or +2 extensions.
I love the xd platform feel and reliability. If you are around Mi I got one you can shoot

Ive had both and shot plenty of glocks, I like the feel of the xd much better, to me, it feels as close to a 1911 in my hand as anything Ive shot, Im not a fan of fat grips......one other thing I like a lot more than the glocks is the metal mags vs the plastic ones by glock, they seem to never drop...........

Actually, in talking with Rich today, he has received some non-45ACP XDs with the new finish. From what we discussed, it looks like all new XDs are shipping with the new finish. If you buy a new gun with the old finish, it is not the newest batch

I have two XD's and two Glocks. I prefer the XD because of the grip angle, and because it is a single action. I also think the mags are much easier to dis-assemble than the Glock's. I have not dis-assembled my XD to the frame, but I have with a Glock. The Glock has far fewer parts. Still pick the XD, and am waiting for the 45ACP to be approved in Kalifornia. My $ .02

I'm no gunsmith or expert, but I can say that there are several reasons I chose an XD over the Glock. (I know you said you don't want a "one is better than the other", but I can't help it. It may help someone else...)
1. Grip angle 2. It felt like an extension of my hand (esp. with a Hogue slip grip.) 3. Weight 4. Good mag capacity 5. SWEET bi-tone look 6. Magazines eject when empty, you don't have to strip them 7. Ease of takedown 8. Pretty much the best of all the great pistols rolled into one(1911/Glock/Sig) 9. Accessory rail That's enough for now. I just fell in love with it when I gripped it for the first time. The main reasons I didn't go with the Glock is grip angle, and I shot one that kept dropping the magazine out after each shot (Isolated problem, maybe, but that SUCKED.) Regards, the Incredible Hulk (Department Nickname)

I did my research before buying an XD9, and I'd also like to add that price is a major factor.
I'm a first time gun buyer and wanted a gun that was high quality, had all the features I wanted, yet was at an affordable price. I simply can't afford a 550-800 dollar pistol at this point in my life.

I'm new here and am considering buying the xd9301HC. I have found a price at Buds Gun Shop in Paris, KY for 399.00. I had chosen the ss for aesthetics plus it sounded like the parkerized finnish wasn't holding up too well. How soon will the xd9 be available in a melonite finnish? Will there be some designation as to which finnish has been used?
