what is a garrison belt?
I know this might not be the right place, but i figured this is where i'd get the answer soonest. I'm just curiour, i googled it and hit a lot of sites selling them, but not sure. Will this hold an iwb holster pretty good? Of these two, which would be better? Please help.

I'm not a LEO; but I believe they're also referred to as Equipment Belts. Yes, it will hold a IWB holster sturdy - BUT, they are usually very thick, wide, and black. I wouldn't get one just for everyday wear for a holster.

The first belt that you had there just looked too much like a LEO belt, less the pepper spray pouch, handcuff pouch, etc. As long as it's a sturdy belt, I think it just boils down to a matter of taste. |

It's a heavy-weight uniform pants belt. Usually 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" in width. Normally plain black or basketweave.
Check Galls or Quartermaster Supply for a better price.

DING! DING! DING! DING!
Fenchy IS THE WINNER! The garrison belt holds your pants up and is made sturdy enough for the "Sam Browne", "duty" belt, or "Batman utility belt" to attach to. Yes they are purfect for any holster carry as long as the belt loops or hooks fit.

Garrison belts are 1 3/4" wide and the thing that is distinctive is the buckle. The buckle is square and the belt attaches in the middle, so that the onter end of the belt passes under one side, across the middle and out under the other side. A good one makes a great gunbelt, but there are cheap thin ones out there that are flimsy and will roll at the top under the weight of a gun. (The kind that the Air Force used to issue, for example.) I perfered the garrison belt to the Sam Browne belt we were later issued because I did not weigh myself down with the mass of junk that a lot of guys did. The only down side for CCW is that it looks like a uniform belt, so you may get a second look from either cops or BGs to see if they can spot your gun.
The provenance of the term refers to the belt being worn by troops in garrison as a pant belt, as opposed to a wider, heavier equipment belt worn in the field. http://www.copsplus.com/garrisonbelts.php Classic garrison belt at botton left of the page. |

The garrison belt comes from way back during the
WW1. It was the name given the heavy leather belt which served as a means to hold up ones pants and also to attach your gear to. It was also the device that my dad, god love his soul, used to bust mine and my brothers arse with when we got out of line. Wasn't any fun after any bout with the 'bruiser'. That was the means to communicate back then. Today, the social services bunch would have someone jailed, signed, sealed and delivered to the prison farm for 900 years after such a performance. Ah.........the garrison belt, kept many a lad in tow! Ed |

Funny footnote, my parents moved out of the house i grew up in (they lived there 23 years) and found 6 paddles hidden in various places. Thanks for the info on the belts, guys. I have to get a wide, thick one becuase my fat ass makes them sag (or is it my fat gut? Probably) after about 2 weeks. |
