When will my Trigger be "broken in"?

I currently only have ~250rds through my XD-9 and was wondering when I can expect my factory trigger to be completely broken in and as good as its going to get?

I will more than likely send my XD to Rich for a Trigger Job in the coming months (although I think the factory trigger is great) but I want to feel the stock trigger "at its best" before I send it off to be modified.

Thanks.

I dont know because I smothed and lightened our trigers myself. I would guess that maybe around 1000 rounds but after 250, it should feel better than when it first came from the box. It will continue to wear in miniscule amounts forever.

I have about 3K rounds in my XD-9 now. I have noticed a slight improvement on trigger feel. I had 3 non-XD shooter shoot my gun yesterday. They all commented on how light and smooth the trigger felt. When they asked if I had any work done to it I said "no".
I shot a Glock 22 to compare the trigger and it felt MUCH heavier than the XD. Comparing the two the XD did feel like it had a trigger job. I know..apples and oranges.

Glock triggers to me feel like you are squeezing a spring. And yes, I have shot Glocks with Vaneck triggers and all the others. They can be made good but they still do not compare.

Unless you're in a hurry, I would give it 1000 rounds. I guess I am close to 2000 rounds in each of mine. They both feel better than they did out of the box, and are peforming flawlessly.

I guess the more I think about it..I was just going to do a trigger job just for the sake of modification. (and because people rave about them) That said, I think I like the XD trigger just fine and by keeping it I will save the $135.

I was more in a mood of preparing the gun for CCW, so I was going to have the slide coated, have Meps installed, and thought "what the hell..might as well do the trigger"

Thanks for the replies, guys..I will keep on shooting and see if I dont love the trigger even more once I hit 1200 rds or so...

Breaking in is nothing but wearing the contact points on the sear smooth. You can do it yourself very easily.

Try polishing the contact points where the firing pin engages the sear. Remove the firing pin and sand down the ledge that the sear catches. Go for a 90 degree perfectly flat mirror. I used 1000 grit sandpaper on the edge of a glass pane. Polish with dremmel and buffing wheel. You can further improve it by using sandpaper to take the sharp edge off the sear. Not too much or you'll regret it. You can permantly change the firing point of the trigger pull by eating away at the sear's edge. If you screw up, you'll have to order a new one.

This is one of the simplest things you can do to inprove your XD and I've recommended it many times. A Houge slip on grip is great to.

I've got a few sheets of 1500 left over from my project.

Yep, Wal-mart sells sand paper kits in the auto section for buffing up your finish. 1000 grit is probably overkill though, 500 grit would do fine.
