www.pistol-gear.com sells hi capacity magazines and I heard they have great customer support along with prompt shipping, although I haven't purchased from them yet, so I am just going on the word of the forum goers here who seem to know what they are talking about the majority of the time ^.^
Do you have a .40 XDSC, Service or Tactical model? Nonetheless, pistol gear has hi-cap magazines for them all last time I checked, just make sure they have them in stock before you do any ordering.

I spent an afternoon trying to modify a 12rd to get a 13th in. At the end of the day I could squeeze it in, but there's no way I would have been able to fully insert the mag with the slide closed. There was no room left whatsoever. I clipped a couple rings out of the follower spring & used a dremel to cut down the feet of the follower. I ended up giving up, but gave the mag a workout at the range and it functioned better than it had before (that spring was always a little too stiff). I could take another stab at it...but I'd probably end up wrecking it entirely.

http://www.promagindustries.com/springfi.asp You could also by a +1 extension for your current mags that will make your 40 a 13 rounder. http://pistol-gear.com/proddetail.php?prod=41PA

i don't know from personal experience, but word on the grapevine is pro mags are crap. Heard lots of people say the slide fails to lock back after the last round was fired with the promag. Also, you don't have to mod a 40 mag to get 13, just get a superthumb or some other kind of speedloader and squeeze 13 in. I learned all this from this forum, i really like the guys idea to put 13 in one mag and 12 in the other, then you get exactly 50 rounds (or 4 mags worth) without having any pesky leftovers out of a 50 round box. I leave 13 rounds in every mag i own, except for my carry mag. I've never had one hang up with 13 at the range, but i would'nt bet my life on it. Also, 13 rounds swells the mag, it's hard to get in with the slide closed, but it's possible. And the 13 round mag does'nt drop when you hit the mag release. Sorry for the novel, just my $.02

totally agree with Jumbo on this one.
I can put 13 rounds in my 12 round mages. Superthumb ftw.

I'd be kind of scared to put 13 rounds in a 12 rounder. My buddy put 16 rounds in his 9mm Glock 19 mag and overnight the mag broke in half.
But I'd say the reason the slide doesn't lock open on the 20 rounders is because of the lip on the catch there. I forget what it's called, but sometimes it doesn't pop up enough. I'd probably buy one then mod the mag. But I'd never carry it....just range time for fun because you never know. I'm DIEING to know how I could get a 30 rounder though! As far as 13 rounds with my 12 rounder at the range. I usually handload the first round.
