but is it reliable???

of those who sing the praises of the XD, are you really ringing these guns out???

or are you just plinking??? after all, these are supposed to be COMBAT handguns...

i guess a few bad exp. from other folks has got me a bit skittish... im wondering if the folks who are just slowly plinking at targets are the ones with no FTanything...

and the folks having problems are the ones who are really WRINGING THE GUN OUT... how are they holding up to things like rapid fire, sustained rapid fire, run&gun gaming, and things like that...

after all, this would be my new cc gun after selling the glock...

i need input.

The day I picked up my XD service I took it to the range and put 400rnds through it as fast as I could while a friend loaded the magazines with not one problem. Since then I have tried everything I could to get the thing to misfire or misfeed with no luck. If I were you, I would rent an XD and put five hundred rounds through it yourself. I'd be suprised if it didn't run perfectly, even considering the abuse it has received as a rental.

Good luck

I'm assuming you know that an off the shelf XD flawlessly survived the "Glock Torture Test"?

If not, here you go. This would be a good example of an XD that was "Wringed Out"

http://springfield-armory.primediaou...SPstory11.html

As far as I'm concerned I once took my XD-9 and shot about 400 hundred rounds w/out cleaning and did all sorts of stupid stuff like shooting it "gangsta style" and limp wristing to the point that I was shooting the range of the roof. (I was not hitting the roof on purpose, just trying to get the pistol to malfunction) I shot as fast as I possibly could and even stuck different types of ammo together in the same mags. (Fiocchi and WWB)

It did not FT Anything once.

Here is a recent post you may find interesting as well, if you havent already checked it out.

ok, thanx guys... these are the kind of things i am wanting to know... i mean its one thing to just plink at a slow pace, and another to really put a gun thru its paces...

i have been waiting for someone to come out with a 45acp with hi-cap thatll fit my small hands... plus the grip safety helps put me at ease for ccw...

i would be getting rid of my glock to get one of these... i just dont want to get rid of a perfectly good gun only to end up with something inferior...

i like the looks and features of the XD line waaay more than glock...

i just wanted to know that they run as good when ya run 'em hard...

again thanx for the replies.

ive put 50,000 thru one before any troubles and broke a trigger, I put 600 thru one and had troubles, was replaced immediately by SA, put 11,000 thru one and had a spring break, put 1800 thru the next and had alot of FTE and SA fixed the extractor and have put another 12,000 thru since without a problem. So yes I think they are very reliable, I have 5 at the moment

I would be willing to run mine side by side with a glock and see how many rounds it can throw down range before a malfunction. I would also be willing to bet my XD can run almost any type of ammo through it.

I've put at least 7 brands of FMJ's, and 5 different types of JHP's, I have never had a single problem.

I've put about 4500-5000 rounds total through my service model.

When I shoot at one range in particular (small, 2 lane course), and I am the only one shooting there, I set up two targets at the same time, one for each range, different distances from me. I then proceed to do double taps on each target, in different areas(shoulder, center, head, etc). I will generally shoot 3-400 rounds like this, as fast as I can, meaning bang bang, move bang bang, not bang 1,2,3 bang 1,2,3 bang,1,2,3,bang.

I rarely have a problem.

I will shoot like this for three mags at a time, 10+10+15+1.

Granted my V10 9mm did die last week (cracked slide) but I have faith that it was a one time thing.
