primary cal, and ammo on hand?

I use my Xd 40 service as my CC weapon, and 40 is my primary caliber I keep on hand. I just did an ammo count this weekend and came up with 7000 (seven thousand) rounds.

I shoot about 200 rounds every weekend, sometimes more, does having this amount of ammo on hand seem excessive?

What is your primary pistol caliber?
How much ammo do you keep on hand?

Well we shoot ALOT, during the summer we shoot no less than 2000-4000 per month.

Right now I need to order some more bullets. Last week we fired up 850 in one range session practicing.

Normaly we have 1000 rounds PER gun around here...50% 9mm and 50% .40 and then normaly 1000 rounds of .223. and then various amounts for all the other guns. I have too many calibers and shoot way too much to keep lots of ammo for all the guns around.

Come April Im ordering 8 lbs. of powder, 8000 bullets, 10,000 primers.

7,000 !

That's alot of ammo for me to keep around, but I would bet that there will be quite a few here that don't find 7,000 rounds the least bit unusual. 9mm is what I shoot primarily. Usually, I have at least 600 rounds of 9mm around, and maybe 300 rounds in .40 cal. A typical range day is a combined 400 rounds, maybe 300 if it's a weeknight. I typically go through two boxes of the .40 cal at each range visit.

if you dont shoot it much it could be considered excessive but no I dont think so. I have probably 10,000 .223, 15,000 .17 machII, 8,000 .40, and 20,000 12 gauge shells sitting in my gun room amung others that I dont shoot as much.

Primary pistol calibers: 9mm, .45Auto, and .40S&W. While only have one .40 compared to 3 each of the 9's and .45's, recent ammo usage is pretty equal across the three.

Since I tend to load as I go for range ammo, the amount on hand is roughly 300 rounds per caliber with components on-hand to load 1000+ rounds of each. Similar to ichy, I need to order more bullets.
