Crack in port strap

Posted two days ago and already on page 3. If I had seen this a couple days ago I could have told you what they did for me 2 1/2 years ago. Same gun. Around 2500 rounds through it. I was told they could cut the remaining metal out leaving a large opening or replace the entire firearm since they couldn't just replace the slide due to serial numbers. I opted for the new firearm and had it replaced with a non-ported model. Now my sights stay clean through a full range trip but my replacement has been nowhere near as reliable as my first gun. After replacing several parts, it's become more trustworthy. When they replaced mine they were struggling to keep up with demand. If I had wanted a ported model, they had absolutely no idea when it would come in. A standard replacement could be shipped tomorrow. No brainer for me. That service followed with 3 more SA purchases (1911's).

I bought the gun from THEM, SA, at their booth at the Camp Perry National shooting match in Ohio.

I'm in no hurry. I figure they will send me a new one by weeks end.

Here's one, you bring your firearm to the closest Springfield Armory certified gunsmith who stocks a complete assortment of XD internal and external parts, this is assuming that SA changes their policy which is making quite a few people frustrated, then your while your firearm is being repaired, you are given a replacement pistol to defend yourself against those who would harm you.

That is not very professional at all. I would expect a higher level of customer service from S.A. Seriously, that really frustrates some people and makes their days crumby if they care about their XD.

I don't know of any gun manufacturer that maintains this policy.

To those who complain about Springfield's response's to problems. I have been treated the most professionally in a timely manner.

Recap of events

Thursday 1-12-06 Shooting range
Saturday 1-14-06 Notice gun slide is cracked
Saturday 1-14-06 send email to Drew @ Springfield Armory
Sunday 1-15-06 receive email from Drew saying they will contact me
Monday.
Monday 1-16-06 Received a call from Vicki at S.A. with return shipping
information/choices, very friendly.
Monday 1-16-06 Gun sent back to S.A.
Tuesday 1-17-06 Gun arrives at S.A. by 9:30a.m. via FedEx.
Wednesday 1-18-06 Email sent to Drew asking if they have eyeballed gun
yet.
Thursday 1-19-06 Email from Drew saying the following:

"Tim:

I just checked on your pistol and we will be replacing the whole pistol
due to the condition that it is in. I apologize for any inconvenience
this has caused you. However I would be willing to replaced your current
pistol with a new 45ACP. In my personal opinion it is the best XD yet!
Unfortunately we do not have this available in a ported model. Please
let me know how you would like to proceed."

You CAN'T beat that for customer service!!!!!!!

Now I just need to decide what I want to do, do I stick with the 9mm ported or move up to the 45ACP?

con:
ammo cost is about double, which hurts.
??increased recoil?? (I know get a DGR)
I have 2-10 round mag's
I have 1-15 round mag
I have a speed loader for 9mm
I have 200 rounds of 9mm in my shtf box

pro:
it's freaking cool to get a ground floor 45ACP.
always wanted a 45
no mags
no bullets
no speed loader
will weigh my already droopy pants down even more.

Thoughts? lets hear em! What would you do.
Only gun.
range gun
and
carry gun (ahem, soon as I get a permit, I mean)

seems to be a no brainer to me but i have already shot the 45acp and would love to have a case of them. but thats just me. ported 9's are a dime a dozen right now and the 45's seem tough to come by. but that will change soon enough. you can be sure that the 45 is worth more than the V10 9 and if you dont like the 45 you can always sell it and buy another V10 and probally put some money in your pocket.

A thought for you, tec...

Would you have bought your ported 9mm. if the .45 ACP had been available?

The extra goodies you have can be sold to others on this forum...Just a thought.
