.40 Subcompact Mag Problem in 9mm Sub

Hello everyone,

I bought a .40 XD subcompact mag hoping to be able to use it for the extra round capacity for the 9mm subcompact.

I know I've seen this posted before but I cannot find it in my search:

The 9mm rounds are hanging up, they are coming out too easily. I know the 40 mag can be pinched in to better hold the 9mm round for a more secure and positive feed, but I am not sure how to go about this.

Can anyone tell the best way to modify this? Thanks

Ed

Um...

How would an XD .40 subcompact mag hold more than an XD 9mm mag? I mean, if you think about it, 10x9mm = 9x10mm.... sooo won't a .40 magazine hold the same number of 9mm rounds as a 9mm magazine would? Or did I totally miss your point?

You would be much better off purchasing the 15 round magazine specifically made for 9mm Sub compact if you want to be as safe as possible with minimal malfunctions.

Thanks poortrader...
but that link does not mention if it is possible to modify the 40 mag for better 9mm performance, or even if it is possible.

Little Viktor...
you can load at least 11 or 12 9mm rounds into a 40 subcompact mag to fit the 9mm subcompact.

Oni..
you are probably correct, but I thought it was possible with a 40 mag, the high cap 9mm subcompact mag adds length to the grip which I was hoping to aviod.

Thanks all,
Ed

Well if you want to get around standards, have you tried bending the the long ends which run parallel with each other that ultimately hold the top loaded cartridge in place? I'm guessing a bit more friction there between the round and mag sides will prevent the rounds from oozing out?

I don't have a xd-sc 9mm, but before I bought my XD-40sc I rented a 9mm. I used my regular .40 mags in the 9mm without any problems. I've read in the past that people did have problems with using 40SC mags, and all you have to do is bend the lip to help it sit better in the mag.

.40SC mags don't have the little dimple like the 9mm SC mags. .40 SC mags will hold 12 rounds or 9mm

Take a look at the picture. You will see the difference in the two magazines.

Or if you had the exact dimensions of each magaines inner empty space you could calculate things from there, adding in the staggering space between each bullet.

I use a 40 mag in mine, I can get 13 rds of 9mm in the 40 mag. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and bent the lips in a little on the 40 cal mag to hold the 9mm's in place. I have done the same thing on full size mags for my 9mm bi-tone service before. I have never had a feeding issue. This an old "trick" when it comes to using 40 cal mags in a 9mm pistol.
