Oil cleanin

I was wondering if anyone could point me towards a place where I can purchase oil for gun cleaning. Any Suggestions?

Walmart usually has all you need -- Oil, CLP, pads, brass brushes, whatever. They usually have a few kits, but sell the individual supplies also.

or if you hate Walmart, go to where you bought your gun. I got a complete kit at my gun shop cheaper than at walmart. I was shocked. But if you want to buy the supplies separately, Walmart will prolly be cheapest. Get lots of ammo while your there!

Oni,

Depending on where you live geographically speaking you can head to any gun shop or sporting goods store. There they should have all the supplies you need. In addition I'd also check out over the internet "Brownells" or "Midway". Both has supplies you need. Both are excellent sources over the internet. Get lots of patches. I go through allot when I clean my toys.

For general frame, slide cleaning I use: Prolix
for barrel cleaning I use: MP Pro7 and Blue Wonder
for lubricating I use: Breakfree or Rem Oil.

Good luck to ya.

I use Break Free CLP for cleaning metal parts and I keep an old T-shirt soaked with the stuff for wiping down my firearms after I handle them. The 13 oz. pump bottles last me about a year (I have two pistols and 2 rifles and shoot and clean 1 or more at least once per month). The CLP will not harm plastic parts, but does leave them slippery. This stuff does a really good job and can be used as a bore cleaner. I like dedicated bore cleaners though. You can get it at: www.midway.com Check it out at: www.break-free.com

I use Hoppes No.9 to clean my bores in the summer when I can clean outside. That stuff has a very strong smell. I do not use Hoppes No. 9 on any blued or finished parts or plastic parts for that matter. Any gun store or online shooter's supply should have it.

I use MPro7 to clean my bores in the winter when I clean indoors... no smell. It does remove all oil from the areas you clean with it. You an use MPro7 on blued parts as long as you coat them with oil afterward. The stuff looks like sudsy dishwater... cloudy white and bubbly. It is more expensive than Hoppe's No.9, but has no smell and does a better job. You can get it at: www.midway.com Check it out at: www.mpro7.com

You can get away with using Break Free on areas that require light oil. For heavy friction areas (like slide rails, bushings, rifle bolts), you should really use a grease. I use Wilson Combat Ultima Lube. There are cheaper options available, but a little goes a long way. I started one of the syringe tubes over 2 years ago and it is about 2/3 used. Check it out at: www.wilsoncombat.com/a_ultimalube.asp

STP Son-of-a-Gun (a car care product like ArmorAll) cleans polymer parts real well and doesn't leave them too slippery after you wipe off the excess. Any place that sells car care products should have it.

Blasphemer!! Hoppes No. 9 is the reason God gave us noses! Even if you never use it on a gun, you should always open a bottle while cleaning just for the aroma. Hint: put on a bit as cologne, and when it attracts a woman marry her! Dump your wife if she hates the smell, reaction to the odor is a good judge of character.

I haven't had any problems with the original No. 9 (not the semi-auto stuff) on anything blued, nor does it seem to affect the plastic on my XD/HS2Ks.

Oh yeah: Welcome to the forum Pete45!
