Carrying Question

I currently have a XD 40 service, but am considering buying a sub-compact for carrying purposes. I am comfortable carrying my service, but didn't know what the main advantage of getting a sub-compact for carrying would be. I am a larger man, 6'2" 240 lbs, and I can conceal the service fairly easily since I have a large frame. I just wanted to know the opinions of those here on what they thought. Thanks.

The sub has a shorter grip which tends to print less and also a shorter barrel which doesnt puch into your thigh as much when seated. I switch between full size ad sub compacts as carry guns sometimes and the subs are definately more comfy inside the waist band. Outside the waist band i prefer a full size gun.

I carry a Service IWB daily, and I'm not a very big guy (6'0" 175 lbs) but it conceals very well and is comfortable in all positions. The key is getting a well designed holster. I'm using the CTAC. Like brandon14295 said, save your money if you are comfortable with the Service.

These other posters much be having brain farts. You'll have to forgive them. You can NEVER have too many guns. If you have the $$ for the sub-compact and you like XDs, I'd go for it. Gives you options at the range and options when carrying.

It could be personal preference, but if I were to do it again, instead of buying a subcompact, I would buy another 4" gun and cut the grip down to subcompact size. I'll try to find the site of the guy who did something similar. I don't have an issue with the muzzle length when concealing. I do have an issue with the grip printing some.

On second thought, I'd get a 5" XD and cut the original 4" down.

Wait... just get one of each, that way you'll be sure.
