Was just at the gun shop and the guy told me that Springfield discontinued the making of thier bi-tone pistols. Any truth to this?

Not positive but when I picked up my .40 bitone last month, the salesman said SA didn't have anymore in their database.

I ended up taking the display model which was the bitone.

I was under the impression that the "stainless" was just another coating.

anyway, it is a service pistol.

The bling factor should be reserved for the "safe queen".

look into hard chroming or nickel plating if you must hve the shiniest pistol out there.

They are still listed on the Website. They also list the new 45 ACP will be available in stainless.

dealers are saying that the stainless and OD arn't made anymore around here, and I had then call SA just to say "I told you so"

If they're not making stainless slides any more, the cover of the April Guns and Ammo is gonna look pretty foolish!

Fret not, called SA (customer service) yesterday inquiring as to the availability of the bi-tone and the short answer is the bi-tones are still being manufactured and are still available. My guess is because (for the time being) bi-tones are frequently backordered from stocking dealers and wholesalers that the excuse to try and sell something other than a bi-tone is simply, "oh, the bi-tones are being discontinued or have been discontinued...so buy this one instead."

+1 Same as the dealers that are still telling people there is no 45acp XD, buy the GAP. Just cuz they're not a preferred dealer and didn't get one...
