Congrats on your new baby.

I only use the Hoppes solvent for cleaning the inside of barrel. For everything else I use a CLP like Breakfree. Solvent won't hurt anything, just wipe off any excess and finish with CLP. Just my $0.02.

You may have to copy and paste the link.

This will tell you all about it, other than that google CLP Cleaner. Lots to read here.

CLP refers to a synthetic lubricant solution designed to Clean-Lubricate-Protect. There are several brand names used by handgunners, such as Breakfree, Eezox, and others. I find Breakfree at Walmart.

Although Hoppes #9 can work as a metal protectant to some extent, it's first purpose is to dissolve powder residue, and thus is called a solvent. I don't find it sufficient to protect my firearms, although it doesn't leave them to the bare metal.

I personally use FP-10 CLP, which I've seen work the best. Lubricates very well, and I love the smell, in contrast to Breakfree. All a matter of taste really, as they are both excellent products.

Congratulations on your new peice!

Alex.
