open eyes
I keep hearing people talking about aiming with both eyes open. Im kind of a newb. But if i look past my xd to a target i can see my xd in double vision and if i look directlyat my xd the target goes into double vision. Do you guys have the same thing? if so how do you aim keeping both eyes open? If this is confusing to you put your finger in front of your face and look past it. i then see 2 fingers. then focus on your finger and what ever is behind it goes into double. And no im not cross eyed or anything. Any way im confused hope somebody can clear this up.

Re: open eyes
Quote:
make a circle with your index finger and thumb and hold it out in front of you at arms length.....pick an object out across the room, like a light switch on the wall.....look thru the circle at the light switch with both eyes open then close one eye at a time to see what eye open still sees the light switch.......got it? okay, so now, while still holding the circle up there, open both eyes and concentrate with the dominant eye and try to focus somewhere between the circle and the light switch, until you can see both pretty clearly.......eventually you'll be able to keep both eyes open and focus on the front sight while not "losing" the target to double vision..... it takes awhile (a long while) to train the brain and eyes.......

+1 to Mike's post. First you must establish dominant eye. For a righty, it's nice for it to be the right eye. I just recently started making myself shoot with both eyes open at the range. It's awkward at first (at least for me). But after a while the dominant eye is in control without losing perpheral vision. Also, in a tactical (emergency) situation, you are not likely to draw a one-eyed bead on the target, so get used to aim/shoot with both eyes open.

Then, once you get used to shooting with both eyes open, learn to shoot left-handed (or right handed if you're a southpaw)

I often find that if my vision starts to go double when shooting with both eyes open than I can wink my non-dominant eye closed for a split second and it will eliminate the double/blurred vision problem when I open it again.

If your right handed and left eye dominant, you can also put a piece of Tape over the upper part of the dominant eye and it will force your non dominant eye to focus on the sights and yet not take away your perifrial vision.
