I have a lot of questions.
Hey everyone, please bear with me on the questions. I am fairly new to pistols, and even though I have owned shotguns and rifles for a long time, I dont' know much about them in general.
Quesion time. #1. What is a wadcutter and what is it used for? #2. On my XD 40 service, the muzzle end of the barrel does not sit centered in the end of the slide, it sits in the bottom of the hole. Is this normal. #3. On the xd, when a round is chambered, i can see part of it through the breach hole, again is this normal. #4. Should there be much of any slide to frame movement on the xd. When the pistol is unloaded, if I pull the trigger, I notice that the slide moves up away from the frame is the very back. #5. How do i aim this thing. I know that this is a very general question, but looking through the sites, where should i place the dots to hit the "x". #6. Armory kote and Dura Kote. What are these coatings? Is the duracoat a sprayed on coating or is it a chemically bonded coating. Also how do they hold up to wear and tear. My XD is already showing wear on the slide and mostly I have just been doing dry-fire exercises with snap caps. I did however manage to scrape my slide the first day i had it. I tried out the xd holster and ended up scratching the slide on my pocket knife clip. I know that i will have many more questions as they come to me. I also know that some of these are very broad, but I didn't know how else to ask them. Thank you all for any input you might have. |

Welcome to the forum.
I'll start with #1 A wadcutter is a type of bullet that is blunt on the end instead of round or pointed. It cuts nice holes in paper. |

Re: I have a lot of questions.
Quote:
1. wadcutter is usually for competition/target shooting, cuts a nice hole in paper. 2.teh spring sits a little out, it's nto flush, atleast not on my xd sc 40, from what i've read it's normal. 3. the only way i've seen a bullet in the chamber is when i pull the slide back, but if your indicator is up, one is in teh chamber, sorr not much help. 4. I have no movement on my slide when the gun is unloaded and i pull the trigger. 5. best way to aim, is to well, read teh instructions, they explain it at the end, practice practice practice. 6. the rust/coat problem is pretty well known, i'd search, i personally haven' thad any experiance with teh rust, where the shell is ejected there are scratches, i oil my gun fairly well, it's going to happen. Not to preach, but i would either get with someone that is familiar with pistols and go to teh range, it can't hurt and just ot be safe. hope this helps! |

This is a semi-wadcutter
![]() If it was a true wadcutter both ends would be flat, but that would not feed in your pistol. This would be a round nose bullet ![]() Well almost round |

One-eyed. no need to get snippy. I am very safe with firearms, and i tend to shoot the hell out of it i am just waiting on my ccw so i can go to the range.
also when i say that the muzzle end is at the bottom of the hole in the slide, i am not talking about the recoil rod, i am talking about the actual barrel. |

SOrry, thougt you were talking about the rod, yes, my barrell protrudes ever so slightly, honestly i didn't really notice it until i looked for you.
One question for you, why do you ahve to get your ccw before you go to the range? Is it a law thing in your area? I would think it would be the other way around, shoot and practice then get ccw. |

He is the one-eyed-fatman and his advice is sage. Then in a few months, get the XD45 when readily available, and immediately send it to http://www.xd-hs2000.com/ for sights and Duracoat.
