I'll admit it. I did it last week, putting a G26 magazine in my G27. I knew what I'd done as soon as round 1 didn't eject. To solve the problem for the future, I bought some of those blue mag floor plates to differentiate.

Pretty much the same thing. The .357sig case would fit normally in the .40 chamber, but .357sig bullet is the same as 9mm.

Just to add to what the others have said, that you were in no real danger and a quick look down the barrel of your gun should suffice to show if any damage accrued, the reason all you heard was a pop was because the oversize barrel and chamber acted a little like a silencer.

It would have been interesting if you had been in a self defense situation and you had fired that 9 at a BG - probably would have just made him mad.

mcb said it best but a 9mm bullet it too long to get lodged in a .40 barrel, never hurts to double check before firing another round though.

Pop the primer out and put that shell on a keychain. Good safety reminder

For you shotgun guys, watch out for the dreaded 20 guage in a 12 guage barrel mix up. I've heard some horror stories about that one.

Hey, myth busters plugged the barrel of some guns and fired them. None of the actions failed, it just bulged barrels. Now after saying that im not condoning a 212 behind a 20...lol

Thanks for sharing Ranger. I often carry 9mm and .40 to the range. Thanks to you, I get to see what happens with the wrong size load - without having to experience it first hand.

I wrote to MB about that episode. First, they didn't block the barrel far enough up to simulate some blockages I have seen that resulted in a rupture. Of course they were trying to simulate the finger in the barrel trick, and they sure proved that wouldn't work. If they really wanted to shred the barrel, they needed a blockage of sticky mud about 4 to 6 inches up, beyond any choke, and they would have seen more spectacular results.

Second, they never even attempted anything like a 20 gauge shell in a 12 gauge, that would have been interesting to see.
