Trigger work?
Can someone please tell me if the pros and cons (if any) about having trigger work done. I read having trigger work will decrease the amount of force needed to fire. I see that Canyon Creek will do 4# pull for carry.
Well, I live in CA and Hell will FREEZE over before I can CCW (legally) or have a hi cap mag. My main use is home defense and range work (non competition). Would it benefit me for my particular situation?

Is this your first handgun? How long have you been shooting handguns? I ask because if you are new to the XD or handguns in general, I would wait a bit.
The advantages are you will have a lighter, shorter, smoother trigger that will allow you to have more accurate shots because of less muzzle movement. The cons are you will have a lighter, shorter, smoother tirgger which makes is easier for AD. Rich is the best, period.

Learn to shoot your stock XD by getting some professional training. Living in Kommiefornia and using a handgun you better understand ALL there is waiting for you IF you ever have to use it, God forbid. Learn your weapon first, it takes time and practice. I don't belive in AD's (accidental discharges)there are only ND's (negligent discharges) So get some training.

A trigger job can lighten and smoothen the action, however...shooting and dry firing can many times, accomplish the same thing. Learn to master the gun as-is before laying out the cash for a professional job.

I plan on taking more extensive classes early next year. Thanks for the advice guys!

My brother-in-law is a leo w/Oakland and we've had a few discussions about SHTF at home. It sucks knowing that if I shoot an invader in w/my tv in his hands I may go to jail too. I was born and raised here, but jeez i hate all these bleeding heart liberals.

I would agree that the best thing a person can do to improve thier readiness for a confrontation would be to get some good training. A short order cook will not become a master cheff is he uses a surgeon's scalpel to cut steak. You can get 4 day class certificates for Front Sight on ebay for around $150. It's well worth it.
On another note, I found that most stock guns have very rough contact points on the trigger mechanism and you can do wonders with just sandpaper. My hk 91 went from around 12 pound surplus to 4 pound match with just repositioning the springs and using sandpaper. Try polishing the contact points where the firing pin engages the sear. Remove the firing pin and sand down the ledge that the sear catches. Go for a 90 degree perfectly flat mirror. I used 1000 grit sandpaper on the edge of a glass pane. Polish with dremmel and buffing wheel. You can further improve it by using sandpaper to take the sharp edge off the sear. Not too much or you'll regret it. You can permantly change the firing point of the trigger pull by eating away at the sear's edge. If you screw up, you'll have to order a new one. |
