Snake-eater 1 :“….do you really believe that government and law enforcement agencies could not, currently, track down who has firearms and ammo? There are so many records available, not the least of which are fed/state forms that must be completed to buy a firearm, the info on file for CCW permits, and the real biggie, credit card sales info, that I believe said agencies could determine the majority of persons who might be considered a "threat" under certain circumstances.”

Motoman: “Because of our damm goverment we have to give them our name and more info….”

And hence we have the reasons not to buy anything gun related over the internet or via credit card. Pay cash...buy from private citizens.

120mm, you just called someone a Nazi. You are throwing around a horrible, vile insult because why? The poster said nothing racist or showing a predisposition towards rape, theft and mass murder but you still felt the need to libel him that way.

Sorry, my tastes are too varied and I like new stuff too much to wait until it becomes "old" stuff available through the used markets. And it's hard to pay cash over several thousand miles. When "they" come for what I've got, they can have what they can find--that means your advice is sound to a certain extent

Howdy,

I would also suggest that if at any time you ever have any question about a ammo or weapon sale, call and talk with your local ATF field rep. The ATF agents are responsible for providing service to citizens and govern FFL's operating procedures.

Wal-Mart has to have properly trained FFL staff. This means it could be the store manager, assistant, dept mgr, or whatever. Either way, they know what must happen. They answer to the ATF. Not the police.

Ok......another update for ya's............

I called two law offices that work plantiff related 2nd ammendment issues...referred to me via NRA-ILA. Here's basically what both offices said:

Unless the data collected has caused actionable damage, there's really nothing they can do. Furthermore, since the store manager has voluntarily pulled the logbook from the floor, it shows good intent on walmart's part. Concerning the detective's actions, the lawyers basically said that it's their word against the person who allowed the logbook in the first place. And there's maryland case history where the courts in this state will basically throw stuff out unless someone has been physically hurt by police behavior.....in other words, if we can't prove it outright, there's no case regarding the police. As far as walmart abuses, both law offices said that since the manager pulled the logbook, and said he won't reinstate it unless ordered by walmart legal via court order, there's no case.

Sooooooo, we're stuck with what we're dealt right now. I plan on trying to find out if the store manager is going to discipline in one way or another the person responsible for allowing this to happen without a court order in the first place. But, I probably won't be let in on that information.

So for now, I'll close this out as panic averted. If they put the logbook back in place, I'll post again.
