"Racist"? Yeah, I'd like to hear an explanation of that as well.

Peace,

Ah WAL-MART.... I love that place.....I buy so much ammo at my local Wal-mart that they usually just hand it to me over the counter to ring up later with rest of my goods and groceries. I guess they know well enough by now that I will not try to rip them off.

Do you have a reference for that law? I have never heard of it or experienced it. I hate to raise the BS flag, but unless that is a new law that just recently slipped through the cracks, then sorry, the flag is going up. AFAIK the only similar law is that pistol ammo can not be sold to anyone under 21. I have never been asked for ID for ammo sales.
I have to agree. Of all the Walmarts in Southern California I buy from, only one records Drivers License info, Pomona, and that's because of a city ordinance. Everywhere else, a verbal are you over 21 (as I haven't been carded in about 20 years they don't need me to prove it) and is it for a handgun. Nothing written down, no paper work and it doesn't matter if it is 100 rounds or 1,000 rounds. Also Pomona is in LA county and no finger print.

Bought 800 rounds of 9mm WWB yesterday at Walmart. No ID asked for.

I buy at least 400 rounds a week and shop at whatever Walmart is closest to the range I am visiting. I have been asked for ID once and that was for an age check (21 to buy pistol ammo in Florida.) No information was recorded.

I have bought ammo from Walmart in Georgia, Tenessee, North Carolina, and Alabama and I have never been asked for ID.

Personally, I think this was a private project of the person behind the counter. I would make sure your house is not being cased or something.

I realize I've been retired for 2 1/2yrs, and things may have changed there (I don't live there), but I worked for L.A. County and I don't recall them ever briefing that state law (or county law, since I also enforced those) and I can assure you, that one would have been briefed.

If you could, please find the law (s) and post it here, some of us Californians are interested.

that like at Academy in Houston. In Sugarland at the Academy they sold ammo and handguns but at the one down the street on the Beechnut/Gessner area they sold no handguns or handgun ammo. its about 3 miles down the road from the Sugarland one but the Beechnut/Gessner is in the bad part of town

Probably because gun laws get stiffer the closer they get to the proximity of large numbers of blacks and hispanics. And yes, that's racist.

UPDATE...........

Spoke with the store manager this morning and advised him of the situation. He said he was completely unaware of what was happening in the sporting goods section regarding this logbook.....not sure if I completely buy that, but whatever, we had a decent conversation.

He told me just as soon as we finished our phone conversation, he would go back there to take possession of the logbook(s) to shred the contents and then inform his people back there to stop logging ammo sales.

He explained that it might have been a situation where either the employee or the dept manager (or both) had been burned in the past by pissed off customers. An example he gave would be where an of-age person buys ammo for an under-age person and the parents of said under-aged person gets pissed and makes that special trip to walmart to bitch out the sales person. I guess I could understand that scenario, but I told him it still doesn't justify the logging of ammo sales.......out of the massive amounts of ammo that's sold, those situations occur so rarely anyway.

So, I'll test the waters in the next couple days. I'll go back in to buy more ammo and we'll see what happens.

I sure hope this gets fixed. Thanks for all your thoughts on this topic, and again, I'll report back in the next couple of days.

DougXD This happened to me and my friends too

Probally at the same walmart even. The one off ordance road by select fire?

They told me it was company policy, to record that ****... I went to the other walmart off of crain hwy yesterday and they didn't record it. Also went to the one on ordance again cause I needed to get some .45 and they didn't do it.

Something ****ing fishy is going on. With that wal-mart. When I went it was a chick and a dude (both looked like a meth problem) writing down the ammo. They even made some BS story about how the new walmart policy had already caught some badguys. It smells like ****, it tasted like ****, it must be ****.

All I can say is if I get my identity stolen some mother****ers are going to get a cap in their asses.

Yup...........same walmart. And those are the two workers that I'm referring to. The dude's name is Alex but the the "witch's" name I don't remember. I'm not kidding......she claims she's a witch!!

I've decided to go up there tonight when one of those two workers will be on duty to buy ammo. According to the store manager whom I spoke with earlier this morning, the logging activity will be halted. We'll see.
