FBI Handgun wounding factors and effectiveness .40S&W test results Personal Defense Ammunition Functional Reliability Test for Semiautomatic Handguns That being said the 180gr rounds generally preformed better in the test. Chris

I carry 155gr Gold Dots in my XD 40, and have seen what they do to pumpkins, so I don't think I'll be going away from them. Anyway, I think that Speer and Corbon are the only 2 main stream brands that have anything under 165gr. out there in mass circulation, being the Gold Dots and then the Pow R' Balls. I'm sure I've missed something here, but I like the lighter grain because I'm not real worried about penetration when I am going to be relatively close if I ever have to use them in a high stress situation.

165 blazer brass fmj for plinking and 165 gold dots for PP in the 40sw
125 fed AE fmj for plinking and 125 Gold dot for PP in the 357sig. I mostly go with the 357sig and I will stagger the HP's and FMJ's when carrying for protection, Usually first 2 are HP and the next 2 are fmj and then just random. I do this especially when doing alot of driving time incase the need to shoot through glass or metal or whatever. |

Mine ate a couple hundred 180gr and 165gr FMJ WWB no problems at all. Great range ammo. I keep 2 mags loaded at home with 155gr JHP for home defence. Thanks to another member here I will have 3 more mags in the mail by the middle of the week.
CHEERS!

I personally reload 180 and 200's in 40S&W. I know this is bad since I don't own a 40 cal XD, however, in my Glocks and Smiths , these are what I prefer. Personal preference, the heavier the better IMO.

I tested Remington Golden Saber 165 gr, Federal Hydra 155, and Speer Gold Dot 180 gr in both my SC and my Tactical .40s a few weeks ago. Both guns fed all 3 ammos without issue. The Tactical grouped tightest with the Remington, the SC was much better with the 180 Speer. Unfortunatey I didn't keep the targets. Next time I'll post a better report with measurements. I didn't fire off a lot of rounds so take the results with a grain of salt.

I use 165 grain Golden Sabers, and I buy whatever is cheap and available for practice.
