Motor oil?

Has anyone tried using synthetic motor oil as gun lube? If so, what viscosity? Read in a magazine that it works pretty good. Sounds like it would work, since it has such a high combustion temperature. Seven bucks a quart is a lot better than seven bucks an ounce.

I use Mobil 1 5w30. Do a search for it. Lots of opinions on the forum already.

I've used 20/50 Mobil One and Amsoil (both synthetic) it's a slightly thicker viscosity and stays put a lil better than 5/50. The only drawback to Motor Oil is the smell when it gets hot.
I feel there is better out there.... but it will work if your just wanting to cheap it.

Like Brownie65 said, there is a ton on this forum for it.. do a search and you will quickly see that Lube is a personal preference and everyone has their favorites and they are typically all different. This can be based on location, from mild climate, to salty climate to freezing climates... just use the best for you and your condition.

lately I've been mixing some SuperLube Grease with a little Weapon Shield Oil and I am loving it... super slick and stays put.

to each his own... Lubes are like asking if people prefer Brunettes, Blonds or Red Heads everyone has a favorite, none better than another. It's all pink on the inside.

I've used/use various motor oils from mobil full synth to royal purple 20w50. Whatever is on hand.

I've used Mobile 1 5-30 before and it worked fine. I've switched to Millcom tw25b and it works much better.

I use 10w30 and I have FRAM oil filter for Vertical grip.


Actually I just started using Lubit-8 fully synthetic.

If thinner is the way to go, what about Automatic Transmission Fluid?

how bad are the solvent packages in ATF?

mixture of royal purple hps 5-30, maxfilm, and RP gun oil.

Pennzoil Synthetic 10w30 for me but I'm in a warm climate.

Below 40 or so degrees use a 5w30.
