Free XD Holster for your car, truck, vehicle, ATV ... whatever.

It seems as if there have been quite a number of "how do I mount my gun in my vehicle" threads lately. Whether or not this has anything to do with a new member (who is not a vendor) that happens to sell holsters that mount in vehicles ... I'll leave that up to the individual reader.

Anyway ... I've commented in several of those threads that most of us already have the equipment necessary to mount an XD in our vehicle. It came with the gun (if you got the XD Gear).

Exhibit 1: The XD Gear Magazine Speed Loader

The XD Gear speed loader is most likely sitting in the case that your XD came in. At least, I know mine was. I only use speed loaders on magazines with a capacity of 20 or greater.

Exhibit 2: The XD Gear Holster (with the Speed Loader mounted to its rail)

Yes, the much-maligned XD Gear holster does have a use ... so does that rail on the holster. Until I undertook this project, I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why Springfield chose to put rails on their holsters. Now, I understand. By the way, the magazine pouches also have rails on them. Give you any other ideas?

Exhibit 3: The Holster Mount

The mount is made from the speed loader. Simply take a Dremel tool or a hack saw and cut off the part of the speed loader that surrounds the magazine (roughly where you see the red, dotted line in the picture above).

Exhibit 4: Another Look at the Cut Location

Make the cut to remove the excess from your speed loader. Then, locate a flat mounting surface in your vehicle. Most of us have seen the picture from the Springfield Armory Facebook page. What you see in this photo, that many don't realize, is the cut-down speed loader attached to the knee panel of the XD owner's vehicle and the XD Gear holster attached to the speed loader by use of the rail on the holster.

Exhibit 5: XD Gear Speed Loader & Holster Attached to Knee Panel

Hopefully, that clarifies the "free" XD vehicle holster question and ... hopefully, those who come along in the future will search for this thread before posting the same question over and over again.

A couple self-tapping screws meant for plastic.
