It's really an interplay between having your desired "dress-compatible" width, versus thickness and stiffness, as well as, less importantly, hardware quality (since you'll be cinching it tight, repeatedly).
As I've explained above, thickness and rigidity can interplay a bit - with one that's more than the other help make up for its deficiencies in that other area. What's more, depending on the holster as well as the dress choice (and we're not talking about belt width, here: i.e. we're not talking about, say, a thin, but reinforced, "dress" gun-belt for someone who must wear a suit to work, etc.), sometimes a thicker belt may be better than a thinner, more rigid belt, or vice versa.

Thanks i under stand it now. I dont put my belt super tight now just tight enough to hold my pants up. I will just buy another belt that i can keep tight and i know it will hold up to abuse if there is any.

5.11 tactical series Operator. Works great and they are issued at work. It's a win win.

I got a great belt from Jerry in South Carolina for $55. I found him on another forum. Apparently he's a retired belt maker just looking to make a little extra cash. Great guy. Great belt!

If I am at the range / training, I am using a Crossbreed belt, and am carrying either an XDM in the factory holster, a Glock 23 in a Kholster, Fobus or (Don Hume I think) leather belt slide.
My normal daily carry is a Kahr CW40 and it is carried in a Crossbreed Supertuck, or a jet Slide holster. I found a very nice Columbia belt that, while not as thick as the Crossbreed belt or other dedicated gunbelts, for $20, it has done very well for more than 2 years.

 NP, glad to help.
One thing to remember is that with any IWB holster, the belt will contribute to retention - cinching it tighter than you usually go can add significantly more friction to your draw. If you do happen to do this, you'll want to test-draw your pistol, after you've cinched the belt tight, just to be sure that you put enough muscle into the draw-stroke, to properly clear the holster.

Just ordered the Rich Brown Smooth Edge BullHide Belt from Bullhide Belts, with the Paul Revere brass buckle, single keeper, Chicago screws, and 7-1" spaced holes. This will be holding up my White Hat MaxTuck Holster that I just ordered as well.
Will give an update when I have it in hand.

I have a Crossbreed belt and a Wilderness Instructor belt. I love 'em both. I usually use the Instructor belt for casual dress. When I need to tuck my shirt in I wear the Crossbreed, sometimes using the velcro. I use a Super Tuck with both belts. I carry an XDm .40 compact.

I use a belt that I purchased from Houseboat as my everyday(gun belt). It is a awesome belt and works wonderful. Heavy single ply leather belts in black or brown. Made in USA.
