Can you just go to Anniston buy an M1

Going to be going through AL in a couple months and was wanting to know if the public is able to just stop in and buy a rifle like a regular gun store? Seems like it might be simpler than sending paperwork in etc..

What is this Anniston place? Are the gun laws different? I think the laws would be the same. Maybe not though, We can do that here in South Carolina but my CWP does not have reciprocity with Alabama, so I assume their laws may be different about rifle purchases. However, It is just a rifle, not a pistol, I think you are fine... It is Alabama!

No I didn't mean that. I meant since CMP is known for being mail order could I just show up with my club membership and proof of profieciency at their store and buy there.

Yes I think you can man, I just read their FAQ and I think all you need is what you are planning to take there anyway.

Membership in CMP Affiliated Organization:
You must provide a copy of your current membership card or other proof of membership. This requirement cannot be waived. The CMP currently has over 2,000 affiliated organizations located in many parts of the country.
Membership in many of these organizations costs $25.00 or less and can be accomplished online. If you have any difficulty in locating a club, please contact the CMP at 256-835-8455 or by emailing CMP Customer Service. We will find one for you. In addition to shooting clubs, the CMP also has several special affiliates. Membership in these organizations satisfies our requirement for purchase. These special affiliates include: Congressionally chartered veterans' organizations such as the VFW, AL, DAV, MCL, etc. U.S. Military services (active or reserves), National Guard, to include retirees. Professional 501(c)3 law enforcement organizations and associations such as the FOP, NAPO, NSA, etc.

Yes you can! As long as you meet the same criteria as is required for purchasing through their mail order program, you can just walk into CMP in Anniston Alabama or in Ohio and hand pick your M1 Garand.

My brother went and got one two weeks ago.

done it a few times. your conceal permit to qualifies you as proof you can shoot. you need to be a CMP affiliated club member, you can join the garand collectors club on the spot and your good there. go find the rifle you want and try to get out of there without breaking the bank.

I can just see me grabbing a carbine on the way out the door.

They'll actually let you pick out the one you want if you show up in person?

yes you get to pick and sort whichever one you want.

it is fairly easy to not buy a carbine, they are in pretty bad shape.
