what clips should I buy for a Garand match?

And how many? My club is going to have a garand match in a couple months and I'd like to participate. From what I understand, I need some 5 shot clips but how many will I need? Are they all created equal, or do some suck? I found a vender that sells clips that double as 5 round clips or 2 round clips. Those might come in handy if I can find a high power competition in my area. Has anyone ever used them?

no, he means clips.
I have just used the preloaded GI ones outa the tuna cans, never had any problems with those.
I have never shot matches though, so i couldnt give numbers to take.

He means clips. I haven't found any difference in the cheaply priced ones or any others, but have not had enough experience in matches to suggest how many you would need. I have never heard of the two round clips, only five round ones.

Never shot a Garand match. Do they load 2 with a clip of eight standing by for reloads for 10 round strings? From this looks like they are 10 round strings like Highpower Service Rifle Matches.

Slow fire is single load, and for rapid fire (sustained fire) you load 2 rounds and then reload with a full clip when those are gone. Someone there will show you how to make 2 rounds stay in an 8 round clip, but basically they are crossed in the center and clip tension holds them there until they go into the rifle. They are pressed in just like a full clip, BUT the bolt will close easier and faster with a partial clip so watch that thumb!

You don't really need any but the regular 8 round clips. They do make special 2 round clips, but you can easily get along without one, loading the 8 round clip with 2 as described above.

that is how I always shot them

you start out inserting two rounds, give them a slight twist... then your 8 rounds

slow or rapid fire pretty much can be the same

you just shoot ten shots @ a time, I personally would like to have some extra clips on hand buy two could be enough since you have too load them.
or some matches use the preloaded... & slow fire is only the two + eight... you will see when you get there.... have seen both
