Got the green light!!! Going to CMP!

My son did a research paper on the Garand, and my wife became interested. She asked if we had one and I said no, we had a .30 Carbine. She actually suggested we add one to our collection! So, since my employer gave us our birthday off this year, I'm making full use of that day and heading up to Anniston in a few weeks. Can't wait!
Now I just need to decide what to look for.

Way to go. Enjoy your Garand when you get. But be for warned, 1 leads to 2, 2 leads to 3, well you get the picture.....

If I lived remotely close to a CMP store I would be broke.

Prepare for the surplus rifle disease. Remember, you can buy 10 rifles a year from the CMP.

you mean the school didn't suspend him for doing a paper on a evil killing machine that only a typical white person would own.

I was surprised. His history teacher loved it, and his english teacher said it was very thorough and appreciated his interest in important historical things that made a difference in our way of life.
Sounds like a teacher with a CCL to me!

Good for him (your boy). Sounds like he did a good job. Is he tagging along with you to CMP?

Unfortunately no. He has a baseball game that day and can't play if he's out of school.....coach's rules. I'm leaving early to be at the CMP close to opening time so I can take my time and still get back for his game. We considered going another day but long rides in the car are not his favorite thing....especially if he can be playing ball or riding his dirt bike instead!

whats your price range/what are you after in a garand?

i was at anniston today to buy a service grade springfield garand. they were in very poor shape. also they only had 4!! i got a springfield service "special" grade. lots of field grades though.

i highly suggest calling the store and asking for Leon or Phil before you go. they will be able to tell you whats in stock and if its anything of good condition. also aim to get there the first day they are open in the week(wednesday i think) and get there at opening, if possible. there stock for the week or so should hit the floor for wednesday morning. for the best options, get there at opening wednesday.
