Acts of Valor

I have seen the previews for Acts of Valor, and although the movie looks like it is going to be good and I want to see it, there is something that keeps bothering me. The preview says that there are "Active Duty Navy SEALs" in the movie, isn't that really counter to the operational security of the SEALs? I could see retired SEALs, but active duty.

Yes that's makes no sense. I thought active duty seal identities are protected. Don't they go undercover.

The movie does contain active duty seals....but probably ones that are no longer doing active ops, and are now instructors.

I suspect they are using the media to improve their image bit in the new millennium.

I think most folks who encounter SEALs in theater (not the cinema ) are not likely to be around to make positive ID's on later encounters. It's not like they're vice cops doing drug buys in different neighborhoods--these guys make bad guys dead for a living.

I took this a different way. In the previews I noticed a few actors I've seen before. I bet the Active duty SEALS are performing the "stunts" and action scenes where their faces aren't shown, etc.

From what I understand the "actors" are the SEALs. The people playing the NSW guys are the real thing, using real bullets where possible, and using real tactics. The raw footage that was shot is now being used by NSW as training film.

Read an interview with the director. There are indeed active duty SEALS in the movie, which is why it took 4 years to shoot, they kept getting deployed. There are also regular actors in the film, nothing says it's exclusively SEALS.
I'm quite sure the military thought of the possible consequences of showing faces of these guys, hardly something to get worked up about.
