127 Hours
My wife and I watched this movie last night, it was real good. I'll give a quick run down encase some of you haven't heard of it. It's based on the true events of Aron Ralston, a canyoneer, who gets his arm trapped underneath a boulder in a remote canyon (crevice) in Moab Utah, while climbing/hiking.
This movie was really spectacular, in the way it was able to capture the range of emotions and and thoughts that would go through your mind if ever faced with a life or death situation and had to go it alone. It really makes you stop and think how one bad decision or one small mistake could ultimately change your life & also realize how much we take the little things for granted. I think James Franco deserves to win an award for his performance!

Good to hear. I was thinking about going to see this or reading the book.

World is full of stupid people. Occasionally those stupid people do something AMAZINGLY stupid and sue, have someone else write a book about them, or have someone play them in a movie. Still stupid but getting paid!

I would agree that it was a dumb decision to go out there alone, or at the very least he should have gave someone a phone call to let them know where he was going, but I think it was more of an ego thing (he was portrayed as someone who knew this area like the back of his hand) coupled with the "nothing is going to happen to me" attitude. I know when I was younger, I was more of a risk taker, and I'm sure I did a lot of things without fully weighing the potential consequences of my actions. But I think as you get older, and have learned from some of your life experiences (or settle down & have kids) you tend to out grow that attitude or cockyness. I know I won't let my kids do half the stuff I did growing up, lol.

I agree to a point, but I think whatever he owed to the gods of "coulda, woulda, shoulda" he paid when he took a dull knife to his arm and then walked for miles in shock until he found rescue.

agreed. he got himself in the situation but he sure had a lot of cojones to get himself out the way he did. not sure very many people would have done the same.

Ralston was not a stupid person. He just got complacent. I read his book, the man knows his stuff. In fact, he repeatedly comments on the fact that it was stupid of him to not tell anyone where he was going. He knew he should have, but allowed his complacency to get the best of him. That being said, he also admits to being a thrill seeker and taking risks. As long as he doesn't endanger the lives of others, who cares?

He didn't sue anybody or have anyone write his book. It's an autobiography. He also didn't actively attempt to produce his movie. Ralston was approached by director/producer/writer Danny Boyle.
Why so hard on the guy? He only blames himself for the loss of his arm.
